IMPROVEMENT IN SULKY-PLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 215,268, dated May 13, 1879; application filed To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, E. S. DANIEL, of Butler, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sulky-Plows; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others are denoted by like letters of reference.

This invention relates to sulky-plows; and it consists in certain improvements in the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, A represents the sulkyframe, which is composed of the outer bars. B B, and end pieces B B. O G represent longitudinal bars, which, with the outer bars, B B, form bearings for the crank-shafts D D, carrying the wheels E E. The shafts D' are provided with hand-levers F, by means of which the wheels maybe adjusted to hill-side work, and said levers are equipped with spring catches Gr, engaging perforated segmental plates H, secured upon the outer frame-bars B, thus retaining the wheels in any desired position.

A lever, I, pivoted to an upright, J, upon one of the longitudinal bars 0, is provided with a stud, i, working in a slot, 70, in the forwardly-projecting arm K of a shaft, L, journaled in bearings upon the longitudinal bars 0 (J. The beam N of the plow O is provided with a bearing, P, for a crank-shaft, Q, journaled in suitable bearings in two brackets, R R, depending downwardly from the bars 0 O. The front and rear ends of the plow-beam are connected by chains S S with the forward end piece of the sulky-frame and the end of arm M, respectively.

In operation the team is hitched directly to the plow-beam. By raising the lever I the plow is lifted out of the ground. The means herein shown for attaching the plow to the sulky affords perfect control over the movements of the plow, while at the same time the stiff and. jolting motion resulting from the rigid attachment now usually practiced is totally avoided.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The combination, with rock-shaft L, provided with a rearwardly-extending arm, M, and

forwardly-extending slotted arm K, and lever I, provided with a stud, 6, working in the slot 70 in arm K, of the plow-beam N and chains S S, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, with the sulky-frame, having depending brackets or hangers R R, crank-shaft Q, and rock-shaft L, provided with arms M K and lever I, of the plow-beam N and chains S S, substantially as described, for the purpose herein set forth.
