TAG
Filed April 26, 1938 E02 wj/n EflZZstatier INVENTOR Patented Apr. 4, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to a tag and more especially to a. shipping tag, check, label or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a tag of this character, wherein the body thereof is formed with a fastening extension so constructed to ,enable the securing of the tag upon an article without liability of such tag becoming loose or separated from the article, particularly when the latter is in transit,
being easy to handle and readily attachable and detachable to and from an article.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tag or the like of this character, wherein the same is stringless and is susceptible of convenient and easy fastening in place particularly about the handle or grip element of a suitcase, valise, trunk or other luggage and also susceptible of easy removal without injury to the tag or the like when desired.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a tag or the like of this character, which is extremely simple in its construction, thoroughly-reliable and effective in operation, enabling the marking of merchandise or articles, strong, being less liable to accidental detachment from the merchandise and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the in vention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred and modified forms of embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan View of a tag constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a View similar to Figure 1 showing the fastening extension in fastening position.
Figure 3 is an edge elevation thereof.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view similar to Figure 2 showing one step in the manner of release of the fastening extension or in the fastening of said extension.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary plan view showing a slight modification.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally the tag, check, label or the like including an elongated body 10 preferably made from sheet fibrous material, such as cardboard, relatively stiff paper or other suitable material and has projected from one end an integral fastening extension or strap ll, being of the same material as the body It].
The "extension or strap II in opposite longer edges thereof is cut into to provide saw teeth-like formations or barbs l2, these at one longer edge being staggered with respect to those at the other longer edge of said extension or strap ii. The formations or barbs E2 in outline are substantially triangular shaped having the outwardly tapered outer edges l3 and latching shoulder it, respectively, the latter being transversely of the extension or strap H to be disposed at substantially right angles to the longitudinal center axis of said extension or strap. Provided in the body It close to the joinder of the extension or strap ii therewith and centered with respect to the longitudinal axis of the said body is an elongated slot i5 which is of a length less than the width of the widest portion of the said extension or strap l2 so that by reason of the tapered edges i3 at opposite longitudinal sides of this extension or strap the free end of such extension or strap can be worked into the slot i5 for positive latching action of the formations or barbs with the body of the said tag, check, label or the like. In this way the extension or strap H can be adjustably engaged about the handle (not shown) of a grip, trunk, valise or other article or engaged at any suitable fastening point of merchandise for the attachment of such tag, check, label or the like thereto without liability of accidental detachment of the same, particularly during transit of such article or merchandise.
The tag, check, label or the like carries indicia (not shown) for identifying purposes.
In Figure 5 of the drawing there is shown a slight modification wherein the slot H5 in substitute for the slot i5 is disposed at an acute angle at the longitudinal center axis of the body of the tag, a portion of such body being indicated at H.
The formations or barbs [4 effect a ratchet action through the slot accommodating the extension or strap H in the fastening of the same with the body iii of the tag, check, label or the like. The extension or strap it through oscillatory motion thereto when the same is fastened in the slot l5 will enable the detachment of the said extension or strap from the body in through the slot IE or IE therein.
The tag, check, label or the like may be cut complete with the extension or strap H included with its body l0 and with the formations or barbs l2, the latter being pronounced in the formation of the same.
The tapered characteristic of the extension or strap H between the formations or barbs l2 assures of the convenient fastening of the said extension or strap or the release thereof Within the slot IE5 or I6 created in the body I! of the tag, check, label or the like.
What is claimed is:
l. A tag of light flexible material like paper comprising a body, a strap extending from one end of the body, the said body having a slot therein next to the strap for receiving the same, and slanted substantially triangular shaped saw tooth-like formations in staggered relation to each other at opposite longer edges of the strap,
the slot 'being of a length less than the greater width of the strap at each tooth formation.
2. A tag of light flexible material like paper comprising a body, a strap extending from one end of the body, the said body having a slot therein next to the strap for receiving the same, and slanted substantially triangular shaped saw tooth-like formations at opposite longer edges of the strap, and staggered with relation to each other at the opposite longer edges, the said slot being of a length slightly less than the greatest width of the strap at the saw tooth formations therein.
