2 Claims.
This invention relates to compartment forming devices for drawers of kitchen cabinets and like devices, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which may be readily inserted in and removed from a drawer and when positioned in the drawer will provide a complete lining therefor and as many individual compartments as desired.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a device of the above-stated character which may be conveniently adjusted to fit drawers of dilierent sizes and which may be readily removed for cleaning and will be extremely durable and efficient and may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention,
reference is to be had to the following description, and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view illustrating a drawer equipped with a device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View taken on the line 33 of Figure l. Figure 4 is a top plan view showing a modified form of my invention located in a drawer.
the line Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line Figure 8 is a View similar to Figure 7 showing 40 a portion of one of the other partitions provided with a notch to coact with the notch of the partition shown in Figure 7 to bring about interlocking connection between the partitions.
Figure 9 is a top plan view illustrating another modified form of my invention.
Figure 10 is a sectional view taken on the line Iii-40 of Figure 9.
Figure 11 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line Il-ll of Figure 9.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a drawer of the kind found in any conventional type of cabinet with the present invention located therein and indicated in entirety by the character 6. The present invention is in the form of an insert which may be readily positioned in the drawer and will form a complete lining therefor and divide said drawer into'a series of compartments. The insert is constructed of metal or any other material suitablefor the purpose and which will be durable and may be readily 5 cleansed to maintain the drawer in-a sanitary condition. Through the use of thisinsert in a drawer the latter may be divided intoa series of compartments in which different types of articles may be arranged and kept segregated.
The insert consists of sections A and B each section including a bottom wall 1, a side wallt and end walls 9. The side and end walls are connected by angle iron brackets Ill. The end walls I 9 of the section A are adapted to telescope into 15 the end walls 9 of the section B whereby the insert 6 may be readily adjusted to adapt" the insert to drawers of difierent widths, the bottom walls i of said sections having overlapping rela-- tion.
A longitudinally arranged partition H is connected to the ends of the end walls'il of the section B by angle iron brackets l2 positioning the partition it so as to coact with the end and side walls in dividing the insert into compartments. 2 To further divide the insert into compartments a partition it may be providedv which is of double wall thickness with the walls thereof spaced, as shown in Figure 3, for the purpose of receiving therebetween tongues l l struck from and extend- 30 ing at right angles to the end walls 9 ofthe section B.
It is to be understood that the end walls 9 of the section B may have struck therefrom any number of tongues which may be brought into right angular positions with respect to said end walls when desiring to support the partition l3, consequently permitting any number of partitions It to be employed and to be adjusted relative to partition H.
Referring to the modified form of my invention, 40 as shown in Figures 4 to 8, inclusive, the insert is indicated. in entirety by the character It and includes sections C and D. The sections C and D are constructed in accordance with the sections A and B as heretofore described in detail. Also the insert it is equipped with partitions l l and I8 constructed in accordance with the partitions H and I 3, The insert i6 is further provided with partitions I9 and 20 arranged transversely of the drawer so that the compartments formed by the partitions I! and I8 will be again divided thereby increasing the number of compartments in the drawer. The partitions l8 and it are provided with slots 2| so that said partitions can be brought to have interlocking connection with each other. 66
The side wall of the section D and the partition I'I have struck therefrom tongues 22 for the purpose of mounting the partition [9 in the insert also the partition 20. The partition 20 further receives a tongue 23 formed on the side wall of the section C. The partition 20 is constructed of telescopic sections slotted. to receive a bolt 24 whereby the sections can be secured. in any of their adjusted positions with respect to each other.
The partition 25 being of adjustable construction will permit the sections C and D to be adjusted to drawers of different widths.
Referring to the modified form of my invention shown in Figures 9 to 11, inclusive, the insert is indicated in entirety by the character 25 and consists of sections E, F and G. The sections E and F each include a bottom wall 26, a side wall 2! and an end wall 28. The section G includes telescopic sections wherein the bottom walls are indicated by the character 29, the end wall by the character 30 and the side wall by the character 35. The: end wall 33 is of telescopic construction. The bottom walls 25 and 29 are adapted to have overlapping relation. The sections E, F and G constructed as described and shown in Figure 9, will permit the insert 25 to be readily adjusted to fit drawers of difierent lengths and widths.
Transverse partitions 32 are mounted on the side walls lot the sections E and F by tongues 33 struck from said side walls. A telescopic partition 34 has its ends secured on ends of the side walls 21 of the sections E and F. The end walls 28 of the sections E and F have telescopic relation, as clearly shown in Figure 9.
A substantially U-shaped spacer 35 is arranged on the section G between the partition 34 and the end wall 30. This spacer is constructed of telescopic sections and may be employed or ornitted if desired and when employed is simply for the purpose of holding the section G properly with respect to the sections E and F.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the various forms of my invention provide a very eflicient insert for a drawer which will provide therefor a complete lining and a series of compartments in which various articles may be placed and segregated from each other. Further, it will be seen that the insert will be durable and can be readily removed from the drawer when it is desired to clean the same of foreign matter, consequently permitting the drawer to be kept in a highly sanitary condition.
It is believed that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages of this invention to those skilled in the art to which such a device rel'at'es, so that further detailed description will not be required.
Having thus described'the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, a bottom wall including sections arranged in overlapping relation with each other whereby said bottom wall may be adjusted as to width and length, upstanding walls integral with said sections and coacting with each other and the bottom wall to form a tray insert for drawers of different sizes, said walls each including telescopic sections to permit lengthening and shortening of the walls in accordance with the adjustment of the sectionsof the bottom wall relative to each other, certain of said sections of the bottom 'wall being bent at right angles to form a partition adjustable as to length and having the ends thereof secured to certain of said walls.
2. In a device of the class described, a bottom wall including sections arranged in overlapping relation with each other whereby said bottom wall may be adjusted as to width and length, upstanding walls integral with said sections and coacting with each other and the bottom wall to form a tray insert for drawers of different sizes, said walls each including telescopic sections to permit lengthening and shortening of the walls in accordance with the adjustment of the sections of the bottom wall relative to each other, certain of said sections of the bottom wall being bent at right angles to form a partition adjustable as to length and having the ends thereof secured to certain of said walls, and removable partitions to parallel the first-named partition and detachably connected to the last referred to walls.
CECIL RICHARD SCHUSTER.
