RESTRAINING DEVICE Filed Oct. 30, 19159 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 A iiomeys Patented Dec. 17, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a restraining device, the general object of the invention being to provide a garment for holding an infant in a chair while permitting the infant to have ordinary 5 movements in the chair but preventing the infant from standing up or falling out of the chair.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the invention in use when holding an infant in a chair.
Figure 2 is a view of the device in open posi- 20 tion.
As shown in these views the device includes an elongated strap-like body part 1 formed of any suitable kind of fiber and its ends are forked to provide the limbs 2 and a pair of straps or tapes 3 is connected to each corner at the end of each limb 2. The body part is provided with a central opening 4 of circular shape and a slit 5 extends from the opening through the rear edge of the body I and suitable fastening means, 'such as the buttons and button holes 6 and 1, are used for connecting the edge portions formed by the slit 5, together, thus permitting the device to be placed around the neck of a child with the neck passing through the opening 4. A pair of circular openings 8 is also formed in the body one on each side of the opening 4, these openings 8 being formed for the passage of the arms of the child. The edges of the body I and the edge walls of the openings and of the slit 5 are bound with suitable material as shown at 9 and an elongated straight strap It] has one end connected with the rear edge of one of the rear limbs 2 of the device and tapes or strips 1 I are connected at the other end of this strap and the edges of this strap are also bound as shown at l2.
This device is'placed around the neck of the child with the neck extending through the opening 4 and its arms passing through the holes 8. The tapes or strips 3 aretied around the legs of the chair as shown in Figure 1 after the limbs 2 are positioned as shown in said figure and if desired or necessary the strap H! can be passed around the waist of the child with the tapes ll connected to a part of the back of the chair as shown in Figure 1. In those chairs that have the safety piece in front to prevent a child from slipping out of the chair, the strap I can be used though, of course, it will be understood that this strap can be used Wherever desired. As will be seen the device will hold the child with comfort in the chair as it will permit the child to move about as it desires though the device prevents the 5 child from standing up or slipping or falling out of the chair. Also the device being flat will make it easy to launder and it can be adjusted by rolling the end portions to make the device shorter and then the tapes used for tying the rolled portions in position and the device to the chair.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A restraining garment for a chaircomprising an elongated body part having a neck receiving opening in its central portion and its ends forked to provide limbs, tying tapes connected with the ends of the limbs for fastening around portions of a chair, and said body portion having arm receiving holes therein, and a belt forming strap having one end connected to one of the rear limbs and means for attaching the other end of the strap to a part of the chair.
2. A restraining garment for holding a child in a chair comprising an elongated strap-like body part having an opening in its middle portion for receiving the neck of a child with the garment passing over the shoulders and having arm receiving holes therein with parts of the garment located under the arms and the ends of the garment being forked to provide elongated limbs and tying tapes connected with the ends of the limbs for fastening around portions of a chair.
3. A restraining garment for holding a child in a chair comprising an elongated strap-like body part having an opening in its middle portion for receiving the neck of a child with the garment passing over the shoulders and having arm receiving holes therein with parts of the garment located under the arms and the ends of the garment being forked to provide'elongated limbs and tying tapes connected with the ends of the limbs for fastening around portions of a chair, and a slit in the middle portion of the garment extending from the rear end portion to the neck receiving opening and fastening means for connecting the edge walls of the slit together.
