3 Claims.
This invention relates to a self adjusting abdominal-athletic supporting device for inbuilding into bathing and athletic trunks, the'trunks 3 of one or two part bathing and athletic garments,
and certain other types of trousers, although the usefulness of this invention is not limited to this class of garments.
The object of the invention, is to provide a firm, form fitting, self adjustable inbuilt supporter, for such garments mentioned above that will form anintegral part of same,'to be self adjusting to requirements in use, and which can be conveniently and quickly inbuilt into bathing and any type of athletic trunks, the trunks of regular one or two part bathing and athletic garments, or into certain other types of trousers, as an integral combination, forming an inbuilt supporter, that is practical for the purpose intended, and eliminates the use of a separate type supporter, generally termed as a jockey strap athletic supporter.
An inbuilt supporter, that will support the abdomen firmly, from the top part of the trunk waistband, to a point at the lower oval part of the abdomen, without undue pressure, or creating an uncomfortable compressed feeling.
An inbuilt supporter combination, that in addition to firmly supporting the abdomen, will also support the private parts of the user in a firm, set safe position, when wearing the combined garment for athletics, swimming, diving or other strenuous exercises.
A supporting device, that can be conveniently and quickly attached into any trunk, the trunk of a regular one or two part bathing and athletic garment, or into certain other types of trousers, as an integral combination with same, for supporting the abdomen and private parts of the user, which device can be attached into the garment, either in the course of manufacturing such garments, or can also be readfly and properly attached to such garments, when garments have been entirely finished for selling or use, which then as intended, forms a combination garment with an inbuilt self adjustable abdominal-athletic supporting device that will automatically adjust itself to the parts of the user, to fit perfectly and smoothly, requiring no additional adjustment to hold the garment in place, to put the garment on, or to remove it from the person.
A supporter device, that by its unique way of adjusting itself automatically and properly to the parts of the person, eliminating as muchas it is reasonably possible, the bulging out of the abdomen and private parts of the user, at and above the crotch line section.
References should be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification.
Fig. 1 is a. front elevation of trunks showin the completed supporter device,in dotted lines, inserted into the garment.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of trunks, viewing the completed supporter device from the front, as inserted into the garment. 10
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of trunks, viewing the completed supporter device from the rear, as inserted into the garment. i
Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the supporter device, 15 before its final completion for inserting into trunks.
Fig. 6 is a cross section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Fig. '7 shows a plan view of the supporter de- 20 vice made of one piece of material before its final completion for inserting into trunks.
Referring to the materials of which this self adjustable abdominal-athletic supporting device may be constructed, while it is preferably made 25 from the materials herein described, the use of any other materials, other than those herein mentioned, may be used to obtain the same desired results, and I refer to my drawings to more clearly describe the materials and designed parts 80 of which this invention is preferably constructed.
Referring to Fig. 5, part 8 the-abdominal support part, is constructed preferably of firm, elastic stretch material, woven or knitted of textile threads which may be of wool, cotton, silk, fibre, linen, celanese, rayon or other similar threads, interwoven with elastic stretch rubber, preferably such as is commercially known as (Lastex) so that the material will stretch either lengthwise or crosswise, or both ways simultaneously, and is commercially known as a one or two way stretch (Lastex) material. This part 8 is then attached to part 9 Fig. 5, which is termed the athletic support section 9 which section is preferably made from fine wool worsted yarn. knitted into a very elastic stretchy ribbed cloth. which material stretches only across the ribs of the cloth, and is termed by the knit goods industry as elastic rib stitch or spring needle rib stitch cloth.
Figs. 2, 3, and 5, showing the illustration part 9 is preferably drawn with vertical lines to more clearly describe the elastic rib stitch of the knitted cloth, which stretches freely across the ribs of the cloth, and is automatically self ad- 66 justing at any part'of the rib cloth as required in use. This part -9 Fig. 5, is so designed and shaped that the ribs of the cloth being vertical and very elastic, allows the stretch of the cloth to take place freely across the ribs of the material, so it can automatically adapt itself to any part of the stretch section, and especially so at the crotch line section 6-6 Fig. 5, so that when the completed supporting device Fig. 3, is attached in a combination with garments, as heretofore mentioned, it will automatically form a firm, smooth, nonirritating private parts pouch 6 Figs. 1, 2, and 3 for supporting the private parts of the user, firmly, in just the place where it will be required for the user, without any danger of displacement or skidding of the supporter pouch- 6 and which is especially prevented, by means of the soft rolled edges ll Figs. 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7, directly at the crotch and extending slightly up the front and back of the device,
after it is inbuilt into a garment, regardless how strenuous the condition of swimming, diving and athletics.
Part l Figs. 3, 4, and 5, which is the downward stretch part of the self adjusting. abdominalathletic supporting device for inbuilding into bathing and athletic trunks, the trunks of regular one or two part bathing and athletic garments and certain other types of trousers, is
preferably of the ribbed material 9 shaped as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, with the ribs of the cloth running in opposite direction, to the ribs in the athletic support part 9, the object of this part l0 being to supply a section of this supporting device, that will have a sufficient downward stretch to assist in automatically forming the private parts pouch 6 of the supporter, and also to have a suflicient downward stretch to automatically adapt itself to variations of body lengths.
Part l2 Figs. 3, 5, and 7, is an elastic webbing material, which may be of any desired width, and is attached to .part '9 as noted, across the material 9 Figs. 3, 5 .and 7, and the ends of this part I! are attached to part 3 Fig. 3, at approximately points I6 Fig. 3, and which finally forms my completed invention of a self adjustable abdominal-athletic supporting device for inbuilding into bathing and athletic trunks, the trunks of one or two part bathing and athletic garments and certain other types of trousers.
Fig. 3, illustrates the completed supporting device, inbuilt as an integral combination with any type trunk and other types of trousers for which it is intended as an inbuilt self adjusting abdominal-athletic supporter, which style of construction for sanitary reasons is preferably of materials described in Fig. 5, especially for use in bathing garments and other garments subject to considerable perspiration, because the athletic part is constructed of material that does not contain any rubber, will not deteriorate from perspiration or sun heat and will dry quicker after use, however should there be any advantage to the user, or if preferred by the manuiacturers of this invention for garments, as intended for an inbuilt supporting device, the entire structure Fig. 7, may be constructed of one piece material, commercially known. as one or two way stretch cloth as used in Fig. 5, part 8 which material is interwoven with elastic stretch rubber, preferably cloth that is commercially known as (Lastex). two way stretch cloth, that will stretch freely across the body oi the abdominal part 8 and also have a downward stretchto automatically form the private parts pouch 6 Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 6, and to allow automatic variations of body lengths as required; hence by using the two way stretch material 8 just described, in one piece, material, shaped and designed as shown in Fig. 7, with but slight variations of construction, it produces the same eifects for a self adjusting abdominal-athletic supporting device for inbuilding into trunks and certain other types of trousers, as if it were constructed ina combination of materials as illustrated in Fig. 5, with part II of one or two way stretch material the abdominal part, attached to the one way stretch rib stitch material 9 for the athletic support part, and the downward stretch part I 0 and the only advantage would be in favor of a slightly lower production cost, but the completed structure would not be as sanitary, firm and durable as shown in Fig. 5.
To attach this self adjustable abdominalathletic supporting device, as shown in its completed form Fig. 3, into any type of bathing or athletic trunk, the trunk of one or two part bathing and athletic garments or into certain other types 01. trousers as an integral part of same, the edges of the abdominal part 8 Fig. 3, are attached firmly to side or the side seams of the trunk or trouser, preferably firmly sewed from the top part of trunk waistband I5 to approximately to IE of Fig. 3, on each side of the garment, and the free end of part III Fig. 3, or the free end of the athletic supporter section Fig. 7 is attached and preferably sewed to the back part of the lower edge of the trunk or trouser waistband, and thus with those three sewing operations, this self adjustable abdominalathletic supporting device for inbuilding into trunks and other similar garments as intended, is completed, ready for use.
Other methods of attaching this completed self adjustable abdominal-athletic supporting device to various trunks and certain other types of trousers, or garments, such as hookless fasteners, snap fasteners, hooks and eyes, buttons or lacings, may be used if desired, without detracting from the intent of the invention.
Although this self adjustable abdominalathletic supporting device is primarily intended for the male sex,.it is also practical to use in trunks or trunk sections of one or two part bathing and athletic garments for the female sex, where required for firmly supporting and slightly compressing the prominance of the abdomen, and with less prominence of the abdomen and pelvis. even when the trunks are worn with very short or flowing leg lengths, because of its snug self adjustment features, and having no separate private parts visible attachment. Also eliminates the necessity of wearing a separate abdominal girdle.
Further advantages of the described structure will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and changes in the structure of materials, designed parts and attaching methods may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which should be determined by references to the following claims, consistent with the state of art.
Having thus described my invention in its various forms, I claim, as a new invention:
1. A supporter for insertion in trunks, comprising a pouch medially thereof, a front portion extending upward from said pouch to support and confine the abdomen of the wearer, the side edges of said front portion being provided with means for attachment adjacent the side edges of the trunks so that the side edges of said front portion are fixed relative to the sides of the trunks, the top edge of said front portion being detached from the trunks so as to permit of a downward pull ofsaid front portion but with the side edges thereof fixed, a rear portion of material stretchable in a longitudinal direction, said rear portion extending from said pouch and being provided with means at its opposite end for attachment to the trunks, and an elastic'band extending from said rear portion below the upper edge thereof around to said front portion.
2. A supporter for insertion in trunks, comprising a pouch portion having soft-rolled edges and beihg self-adjustable to the body of the wearer, the thickness of the soft-rolled edges being greater than twice the thickness of the material of the pouch portion, a front portion extending upward from said pouch portion to support and confine the lower abdomen of the wearer, the side edges of said front portion being provided with means for attachment adjacent the sides of the trunks, so that the side edges of said front portion are fixed relative to the sides of the trunks, the top edge of said front portion being detached from the trunks so as to permit of a. downward pull of said front portion but with the side edges fixed, a rear portion of'material stretchable in a longitudinal direction, said rear portion extending from mid pouch portion and being provided with means at its opposite end for attachment to the trunks, and an elastic band extending from said rear portion from below the upper edge thereof around to said front portion.
3. A supporter interchangeable at will for insertion into trunks comprising a pouch medially thereof, a front portion extending upward from said pouch to support and confine the abdomen of the wearer, means along the side edges of said front portion for detachably securing the side edges of said front portion to the sides of the trunks, the top edge of said front portion being detached from the trunk so as to permit downward pull of said front portion but with the side edges thereof fixed, a rear portion of material stretchable in a longitudinal direction,
said rear portion extending from said pouch, means along the opposite edge of said rear portion for detachably securing said rear portion to the rear of the trunks, and an elastic band extending from said rear portion below the upper edge thereof around to said front portion.
