Description

v G. R. BURDON. Combined Hose Connection and Sprinkler.
No. '224.513. Patented Feb. 17, 41880.

UNITED STATES y PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE R. BURDON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
COMBINED HOSE-CONN ECTION AND sPRnvKL-Eag` SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 224,513, dated February 17, 1880.
Application filed August 11, 18'19.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. BUEDON, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Hose-Connection and Sprinkler, which improvement -is fully set fort-h in the `following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- .Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view ot' the same with a portion cut away, showing the main lead or channel extending from end to end.
My invention consists in a combination hoseconnection and sprinkler so constructed that it may be used in conducting or leading Water, the same as the hose, or as a sprinkler cdmbined, asvhereinafter described.
ln the accompanying drawings, A- is the conducting-pipe; B, a movable sleeve. c is a nut, and d. a Washer. The conductingpipe or conductor A is made as a tube, having depressions or ridges formed on the two ends, Which. ridges serve to hold said ends firmly into the ends of the hose to which they are at tached. The central portion of conductor A, on which the sleeve B is fitted, is turned slightly tapering, with a shoulder formed at the end of the largest diameter of the taper, for said sleeve to turn against, as shown in Fig. 2. At the smaller taper, or on the opposite end, ascrew is cut and the nut c and washerd tted thereon, for holding sleeve B in its place. Near the center of said taper,on one side, con ductor A is provided with one or moreholes drilled through said side into the main lead or channel. (Shown in Fig. 2.) The sleeve Bis fitted to turn water-tight on conductor A, and
made with an opening through one side the proper diameter to span the holes or perforations made in said conductor A, so that when required for sprinkling said opening may be in position as represented in the drawings. When thesprinkler is not required for use sleeve B is turnedto one side, changing the position of the opening of said sleeve, (shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1,) by which means'the eration at the same time, being an advantage for watering large grass-plats or large owerbeds, Where sprinkling is more desirable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The combined hose connection and sprinkler, consisting ot' a vhollow connection orgconducting-pipe, A, having one or more holes throughy its side, and a sleeve, B, provided.
with an opening or openings, and `so arranged on the conducting-pipe as to turn over its side holes, substantially as described, and for the 'purpose specified.
