Application October 2, 1939, Serial No. 297,586 2 Claims. (01. 36-8-5) My invention relates to orthopedic devices, and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of an orthopedic device in the form of apad or the like adapted to be installed within a shoe to dispose the foot towards the opposite side whereby to maintain a toe having a corn thereon, adjacent, said pad and out of engagement with the wall of the shoe.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, eificient in operation and economical in manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.

Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional View of a shoe illustrating my invention as applied thereto. Figure 2 is a side elevation of my invention.

In order to teach my invention, I employ a shoe 5 of ordinary-construction and in which is contained a foot 6 having a little toe 1 containing thereon a corn 8, bunion or the like. My novel form of pad 9 is interposed between the little toe 1 and the adjacent wall of the shoe and said pad is of an elongated configuration having an outer face II] for engaging the inner face of the wall of the shoe and'an inner face ll for engaging the side of the foot. The front end of the inner face II of the pad is formed with a recess H! for receiving therein the slight protuberance of the toe in the rear of the corn. By arranging the pad 9 rearwardly of the corn 8, the entire foot is disposed towards the opposite wall of the shoe and thereby precludes crowding or compressing of the toes of the foot together and defines sufficient space between the little toe and the wall of the shoe to preclude engagement of the corn with said wall.
The pad is adapted to be inserted into the shoe after the same has been Worn, and the position of the pad may be determined through the medium of the indentation or the slight recess formed in the wall of the shoe by the corn whereby said pad can be positioned in the rear thereof.

I claim: I a
1.' An orthopedic device, comprising an elongated pad having one face provided with beveled edges adapted to be secured to the inner face of. the upper of the shoe, the rear end edge of the pad being rounded and the opposite end edge being approximately straight, and the opposite face of the pad having a recess extending from the straight edge obliquely downwardly in respect to the said straight edge of the pad to conform with the inclination of the toe.
2. An orthopedic device, comprising an elongated pad having a straight end edge and a curved end edge connected by a concave upper edge and a convex lower edge and all of said edges being beveled on their outer faces and adapted to conform with the inner contour of the upper of a shoe, the opposite face having a recess extending obliquely downwardly in respect to the sides of the pad from, the straight edge with upper and lower walls approximately of the same contour and parallel.
