PACKAGE OF INTERFOLDED PAPER SHEETS AND DISPENSING WRAPPER THEREFOR 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Nov. 24, 1939 INVENTOR. fiayfass. 7/24 Patented Jan. 6, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PACKAGE OF INTERFOLDED PAPER SHEETS AND DISPENSING WRAPPER THEREFOR Ray Ross, New York, N. Y. Application November 24, 1939, Serial No. 305,852
' 1 Claim. (cl. 206-57) The object of the present invention is to provide a dispensing box for folded paper sheets, particularly paper handkerchiefs, and adapted for' use as a pocket container. The character- .istic of the device is that a'wall of the box or carton, the latter being customarily made of cardboard or paper, is detachable and when pulled outwardly will engage and expose a margin of the initial foldedpaper handkerchief, or the like; this initial article may be grasped and pulled from the box, and inasmuch as the successive folded articles are inter-folded, removal of the first sheet will pull forward and expose a margin of the second sheet, the removal of the sgccessive folded articles being eifected accordsly. The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure'l is a perspective view of a carton embodying the improvements, the boundary lines of certain elements being shown by dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the box after detachment of the hook-pull section from the top wall and the withdrawal thereof to expose the initial folded sheet, the
latter being shown by dotted lines.
Figure 3 is a sectional elevation taken transversely of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 1, showing the hook-pull section of the box detached from the top wall and moved outwardly a partial distance.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 3, showing the position of the initial sheet and a succeeding sheet after the hook-pull has been removed.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the hook-pull I section detached, its fold lines being. dotted.
Figure '7 is a plan view of the blank from which the structure of the preceding figures is made.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the upper portion of a modified form of the invention.
Figure 9 isa plan view, broken away centrally, illustrating the blank from which the structure shown in Figure 8 is made. I
, Referring 'to the-drawings and particularly Figagainst the innerface of panel 2 as in the strucure .7, the embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 7 V inclusive, is made from" a blank having a front panel .i, a rear panel 2, end panels 3,31: and an adhesive lip 4. The panels I and 2 are provided with one or more extensions I2, 21:, and the end panels are provided with bottom tuck-in extensions 3a, 3b,;thelast-named panels also being provided with top fold-over lips 30 and 3d.
long extension foldable downwardly on the line I and upwardly on the line I. The said long extension when thus folded provides a top closure section 5, for the box, and a hook-pull i. This hook-pull is detachable from wall section 5 along the dotted lines g which will be perforated to enable such ready separation.
In forming the box, it is folded longitudinally on the dotted lines It and end panel 3:: is secured to adhesive panel 4 after which the bottom wall member 2.1: may be folded horizontally, followed by the members 3a and 3b, or these members may be folded first followed by said member 21:. The'bottom of the box is closed by adhesive plied to member is.
Before such folding operation, the interfolded Q sheets are laid upon panel I with the top margin 'of the first sheet moved outwardly and overlying wall section 5' and the hook-flap at the'lower area thereof. Member 6 is then folded over on the fold line f to engage the top of the sheet extension and then on the line I, the cover being folded simultaneously on the line h. By first sheet is meant the sheet exposed at the top of the assembly of inter-folded sheets laid upon panel I. f In the modification shown in Figures 8 and 9, the structure, with the exception of the hookpull, is the same as in the preceding figure an independent cover member being added. The cover member is carried at the upper'end of panel 2 as indicatedat I and the hook-flap is: has its tearing line 9' extendingwithin the area of panel I so that the tearing .areaais on the face of the package rather than on the top. The two spaced fold lines of the hook-flap f, i remain the same, the fold line I lying at the extremity of the top of front panel I, so that when the hook-flap is folded back it will lie against the 'innerface of the front panel rather than ture of the preceding figures. g
In both forms of the invention the shape of the perforations g and a at'which thehookflap is detached from the box, provides a finger I tab 8 which may .be raised and conveniently seized by the fingers forwithdrawing the top margin of the first sheet. 'In the drawings, the
inter-folded paper sheets are indicated at I.
In packing a stack of inter-folded sheets into the'modified form of box shown in Figures 8 and 9, the hook-pull extension of panel 1 is folded inwardly on linev f and upon said panel.
The stack of sheets, with the "normallyfolded' The top of front panel l-is provided with a top margin of the topmost-sheet pulled out, is,
laid with its end adjacent fold line I and the extended top margin of said topmost sheet lying over the area of the hook-pull between the lines f and f. The hook-pull is then folded upon the line f over upon said sheet margin and the stack is reversed in position so that its previous lowermost sheet lies uppermost and the stack rests on panel I. g be folded on its" longitudinal lines of fold, the end panel sections 3:: and 4 being secured by adhesive, the bottom walls folded and secured, whereupon the top fold-over lips may be brought down upon the stack and the top wall 1 brought down and secured by adhesive to said lips.
In each form of the invention, the boxcomprises an integral closure member detachable therefrom and serving as a hook-pull for the initial sheet to be dispensed.
It will be understood that the form and arrangement of the elements illustrated in each a of the embodiments of the invention may be The sheet may then 5 A package of interfolded paper sheets and a' dispensing box-like wrapping therefor, the wrapping comprising a sheet cut, scored and folded to form front and rear panels, end panels and side panels, one of said end panels having an 10 extension projecting into the wrapper and lying along the front wall thereof, the said extension having a reversely .and inwardly bent portion which is interfolded with the adjacent paper sheet, the last named end panel being completely l5 traversed by a weakened line whereby said ex- 20 Ra?
