Description

H. M. CURTIS, J. P. MUSSER 8: N. A. TROWBRIDG Combined Bag- H0lder and Truck.
Patented June 15, 1880 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAVILAH M. CURTIS, JAMES P. MUSSER, AND NOBLE A. TROWBRIDGE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA. I
COMBINED BAG-HOLDER AND TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,733, dated June 15, 1880.
Application filed November 12, 1879. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HAVILAH lVIILES OUR- TIS, J Ali/Les PETER MUssER, and NoBLE ALEX ANDER TROWBRIDGE, all of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota,
have made certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Bag-Holders and Barrel- Trucks, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompany- IO ing drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the whole device ready for use. Fig. 2 is a reversed view of the bag-holdingattachmentdetached. Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the base detached.
This invention relates to devices for use in fillingand moving bags, barrels, &c., from place to place; and it consists in an annular base provided with rollers and an upright standard, to which a bag-holder is attached, as set forth.
A is an annular ring, forming the base of the device, and provided on the under side with wheels c a a by which it may be easily moved about. One of these wheels may be swiveled, as shown at a to enable the device to be more easily turned or moved in any desired direction.
Bis a standard, set loosely upon the base A,
0 and having a portion of its upper part circular, as shown at b in Fig. 1, to receive a collar, c, which is adjustable up or down by a setscrew, (1.
e is another. collar, setting down loosely over 5 the same standard B b, and resting upon the collar 0, and provided with an elongated or oval-shaped hoop, D, set at right angles to the standard B. This hoop will be supplied with spurs or other catches g, adapted to receive 40 and hold the mouth of a bag open when being filled.
The collars c e are provided with V-shaped lugs and notches h, to prevent the bag-holding hoop being turned around too easily, while at 5 thesame time it may be turned about by the exercise of a slight degree of force. By this arrangement an empty bag may be suspended from the hoop D, and the hoop adjusted by the collar 0 to the proper height.
When the bag is filled it is disconnected from the hoop D, and thelatter swung around out of the way, so that the bag may be easily tied without removing it from the base A, and the whole device then rolled away to any desired point. v
The apparatus may also be used for moving barrels, boxes, 850., from place to place, or for a permanent stand for barrels, &c., in stores, &c., where goods are kept in such receptacles.
When used on farms or out-of-doors the wheels at will be larger, to enable the device to be used on rough ground, &c.
The hoop Dis made reversible, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the bag may be placed either inside or outside the hoop, as its size may require.
A temporary wooden bottom may be fitted into the base A, as shown in Fig. 1, for the bag to rest upon when being filled.
WVe are aware that it is not new to provide a bag-holder with a base having rollers or wheels; but such we do not claim, broadly.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The annular wheeled base A and standard B, the latter provided with the collar 0, made adjustable by the set-screw d, in combination with the reversible collar 0 and bagholding hoop D, substantially as set forth. 8o
2. The collars c 0, having the V-shaped notches h, in combination with the bag-holding hoop D, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HAVILAH MILES CURTIS. JAMES PETER MUSSER. NOBLE ALEXANDER TROWBRIDGE.
