Description
-`Aug. 1l, 1942.- T. REMBREc'l-rr COAT CONSTRUCTION Filed Aprikl 5, 1940 1N VENTOR.
Patented Aug. 11, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT (OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to garments, with special reference to an improvement in the construction of custom made coats.
Almost invariably such garments are provided at their shoulders with padding material, secured between the lining and outer fabric, in or'- der to produce an artificial fullness or square effect.
Occasionally, one of the wearers shoulders is lower than the other, requiring a thicker pad to be inserted which entails ripping and resewing of the lining.
In any case, ordinary pads frequently become saturated with moisture, as from rain and perspi-ration, loosing their resiliency and acquiring an unpleasant odor.
It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a pad easily accessible from the inner side of a coat, unattached except at its ends, thus constituting a pocket open at its sides for Ventilation.
A further feature is in the provision of a pad, arranged with respect to the garment material, and adapted to receive additional thicknesses of padding material at any required time.
These advantageous objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and delineated in the anneXed drawing, constituting a component of this disclosure, and in which:
Figure l is a general perspective View of a coat in which is an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side View of the device, looking from the inner side of the coat.y
Figure 3 is a sectional View, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2 and drawn to a` further enlarged scale.
Figure 4 is a rear elevational View shown in Figure 1.
The conventional coat shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4, include a breast I5, shoulder I6, collar I'I, sleeves I8 and back I9, together with the usual belt, pockets and fastening means complete.
The pad, generally designated 20, is composed of strip of textile fabric 2|, disposed adjacent the breast I5 and spaced therefrom to produce a pocket 22. Positioned against the fabric is a felted fibrous sheet 23 of resilient material, the same being overlaid with a thin, preferably waterproof fabric 24, its end edges inturned as a binding 25 and held by stitches 26.
The sleeve I 8 is stitched, as at 2'I, to the element I5, and other stitches 28 and 29 connect the seam and pad.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the pocket space 22 is open at its longitudinal edge, permitting the entrance-or removal-of filling material. V
Having thus described the invention and set forth the manner of its construction and use, what is claimed as new and sought to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In combination with a coat, a backing strip, a resilient pad disposed thereover, a Waterproof facing stitched at its end edges to enclose said strip and pad, and means for attaching the upper and lower ends of said pad to the shoulder and sleeve'of the coat, the side edges of the pad being unattached to the coat for the reception and removal of padding.
THERESE REMBRECI-IT.
