This invention relates to new and useful lmprovements in moccasins.

The invention proposes the construction ofa moccasin which is characterized by a one piece upper extending from the front around the sides to the back and having an open vamp portion located to the front of lapel portions formed at the sides of the top opening, and toe cap attached at its edges to the edges of the open Vamp portion and having'a rear ap extending over the lapel portions and associated therewith in a novel manner.

Still further the invention contemplates the use of a lace drawn through openings in the lapel portions and openings in the ap of said toe cap for pulling the sides of the upper tightly against ones foot.

Still further the invention proposes a novel construction of the sole portion of the-moccasin. It is contemplated to arrange the sole with a top ller section and an intermediate rubber section, stitched to the edges of the upper, and a bottom rubber section cemented to the intermediate rubber section.

Still further the invention proposes a novel arrangement of lace in a modification thereof,v

used in conjunction .with the vamp portion and engaging through a passage in the sole of the shoe for assisting in tightly holding the moccasin on ones foot.

Another object of the invention is thel construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which may be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

` The moccasin, according to this invention, includes a one piece upper I0 extending from the front around the sides to the back 'and having an open vamp portion II located to the front of inwardly extending lapel portions I2 formed at the sides of the open vamp portion II of the upper. A toe cap I3 is attached by stitches I4 at its edges to the edges ofthe vopen toe cap portion II. This toe cap I3 has a rear ilap I5 extending over the lapel portions I2. A lace I6 is drawn through a pair of openings I1 formed in the rear flap I5 of the toe cap I3 and through openings I8 formed in the lapel-portions I2. The outer ends of the lace are disposed at the top .of the rear ap I5. When the moccasin is worn the lace is tied into a bow, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and serves to draw together the lapel portions I2 for holding the moccasin tightly on ones foot.

The ends of the one piece upper I0 are located at the back of the moccasin and are covered with a strip I I extended upwards outside of the material of the upper and secured in position by lines of stitches I8. The top edge of the upper I0 is finished with a serrated strip I9 secured in position by a line of stitches 23. The upper I 0 has the usual heel stiiening section 2| encased between the outer material and lining 22 of theupper. The strip I9 is bent over the top edge of the upper and the inner edge thereof is held in position by a 'line of stitches 20.

The moccasin is provided with a sole comprising a top ller section 25, an intermediate rubber section 26, and a bottom rubber section 21. The top filler section 25 is composed of lone or more internal layers 28 of cork or other filler material, and an outer sheet covering 25". The intermediate layer 26, the top ller 25, and the upper I0 'are stitched together with a, line of stitches 29 extended along the edge portions thereof. The

- bottom rubber section 21 is cementedv to the bottom face of the intermediate rubber section 26.

In Figs. 6 and 7 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form distinguishing merely in the arrangement of the lace I6'. In this form of the invention the lace I 6 is engaged through the openings I1 in the rear iiap I5 of the toe cap I3, the openings I8 in the lapel portions I2, and openings 32 in the bottom section of the upper I6. 'I'he lace I6' also passes through a passage 33 extended transversely across the top filler section 25. That section of the lace I8 within the upper I0 is crossed at the point I8, as illustrated in Fig. 7, so that when the lace is drawn tight there will be a tendency tor the lace to draw together the lapel portions I2 as well as to draw the sole portion against the bottom of ones feet.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself tothe precise constructions herein disclosed and' the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A moccasin having a sole formed with a transverse opening adjacent its arch through which the intermediate portion o! a shoe lace extends, a moccasin upper mounted upon said sole, said upper being formed withopenings adjacent the top face of said solethrough which asoasso z the ends of said laces may be passed to the interior of said upper, and said upper being formed with openings at the top thereof through which the ends of the laces are adapted to be passed to the exterior of said upper to be pulled and tied together for securely attaching said sole and upper to the foot.

2. A moccasin having a sole formed with a transverse opening adjacent its arch through which the intermediate portion of a shoe lace extends, a moccasin upper mounted upon said sole, said upper being formed with openings adjacent the top face of said sole through which the ends of said laces may be passed to the interior of said upper. and said upper being formed with openings at the top thereof through which the ends of the laces are adapted to be passed to the exterior of said upper to be pulled and tied together for securely attaching said sole and upper to the fooiiLsaid lace being crossed before having its ends passed through said topmost openings enabling said ends to be pulled across the top o! the foot for securing said sole and upper in position upon said foot.
