The invention contemplates the construction of an ironing board as mentioned which is char T aeterized by a pair of adjacent board sections and a hinge or ioldably connecting ad jacent ends of these sections together.-

The invention proposesto so locate the hinge or hinges on the sections of the ironing board that the sections may move from adjacent folded positions to aligned-positions. In the latter po sition of the sections theboard may :be placed across chairs or other supportingeleznents and used in the usual Way.

The invention further contemplates an ar-- rangement by whichthe folded ironing board may be supported on a nail, clothes bar or other supporting element. a i

The portable folding ironing board, in accord ance with this invention, includes a pair of ad-, jacent sections l9 and H, and a hinge or hinges i2 hingedly connecting the adjacent ends of these sections. The hinges i?! are mount ed onthe bottom faces of the sections and are of.a construction which makes it possiblefor the sections to fold up adjacent each other as illustrated particularly in Figs. 3 and 4.. Moreoveig the hinges permit the sections to be opened to the positionzshcwn in Figs. 1 and 2, and then the adjacent endsof the section will contact each forming shoulders which limit furtherpiv- 1 Thusfithe sections maintain aligned positions. 'Meansis provided for hanging up the folded board, when is desired. In the'formof the invention shown in Figs. 18 and aithis means comprises alocp of string or cord l4 whichis engaged over one of the sections of the ironing board and moved to a position toextend across the hinges i 2. In Fig. 5 another modified form of the invention is disclosed in which a conventional wire clothes hanger ii is shown extended across the hinges E2 of the folded board, to comprise the supporting means.

In Figs. 6 and 7 another modified form of the invention is disclosed in which means for hanging up'the ironing board comprises a wire which has its ends 08a permanently attached to one of the leaves of the hinges 12, by welding, indicated by reference numeral id, or the Wire l8 may be attached to the leaves of the hinges in some other way. The wire 8 has a central upwardly extending portion 28. A hook 2| is slidably mounted on the wire l8. When the sections of i the, ironing board are in their folded positions, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the hook 2! opening of the sections.

In Fig. 8 still another modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which the portable folding ironing board is shown disposed Within an envelope 22 which has an opening and top flap 23 through which the board may be removed when desired. The envelope 22 is also provided with a tab 2 having an opening 25 by which it may be engaged on a nail or other supporting element.

It is to be understood that this device may be used, not only as an ironing board or clothes hanger, but also for any general purpose in the kitchen or elsewhere as a food slicing and chopping board, emergency table; etc. It also may be used as a protecting shield over the top of furniture for placing hot objects thereon.

This board may be made of any suitable material and also coveredby the usual padding and removable cover. The board may be folded with the padding and cover when desired and placed or hung wherever desired.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I donot limit myself to the precise constructions'herein disclosed and attaching said hook tonne of said board: sec-.

A portable folding ironing board, comprising a pairof adjacent board sections, spaced hinges hingedly connecting adjacent ends of said board sections together, a hook arranged to projoint in an operative position from between the hinged ends of said board sections, and means attaching said hook to one of said board sections so. that it may be moved from an operative extended position to an inoperative position retracted. between the adjacent faces of said board sections, comprising a length of Wire disposed between said'hinges and having its ends attached to the leavescf the hinges which are attached to one of said board sections, said wire being spaced from the adjacent edges of said board sections and having acentral portion directed towards said adjacent edges, and means slidably attaching said hook to said wire to be movable 'to an operative position engaging said bent central portion and slidable to an inoperative position disengaged from'said bent central portion,
