WITNESSES. INVENTO/ZS.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
GEORGE E. BOOMER, OF MEXICO, AND RUFUS E. BOSCHERT, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 233,193, dated October 12, 1880.
Application filed January 28, 1880.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, GEORGE B. BOOMER, of Mexico, Oswego county, New York, and RUFUS E. BOSCHERT, of Syracuse, Onondaga 5 county, New York, have jointly invented a new and useful Improvement in Presses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- '10 Figure 1 is a top-plan view of the bed and foundation of the press, showing the rollers in position. Fig.2 is a cross-section of the same and the platform.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- I 5 sponding parts.
This invention relates to presses in which what is called a double movable platform is used, which is mounted upon trucks or wheels traversing tracks on opposite sides of 2o the press-bed.
It consists of the employment of intermediary rollers mounted upon uprights, one or more of such rollers being located on each side of the press-bed for the purpose of supporting z 5 the central portion of the platform and preventing its sagging, as well as to assist in the shifting of the platform endwise.
A is the bed of the press. B is the foundation of the press, which maybe the floor of the building. 0 is the platform, mounted upon the trucks or wheels d d, which traverse the tracks 6 e and operate together in the endwise movement of the platform. E E are the rollers, which are mounted horizontally in bearings upon the upper ends of the uprights m m, which are so erected upon the foundation that the rollers will lie, one or more, on each side of the bed A, parallel to it and to each other, and of such height that the platform 0 will rest upon them, the wheels d d being upon the tracks 0 e. The length of these rollers is designed to be about the same as the distance between the tracks; but the length can be varied, and also their size.
In operation these rollers serve to support 5 the center of the platform crosswise, prevent its sagging in the center when loaded at either or both ends, and also act as central stationary trucks when the platform is being shifted endwise Having thus described our device, what we claim is The combination, in a press, of the intermediary crosswise supportingrollers E E, mounted in bearings on the uprights m m, with the movable platform 0, mounted upon wheels d, traversing the tracks e, when constructed and operating together, substantially as and for the purposes above set forth.
