This invention relates to garments, and more particularly to undergarments of the girdle type, 'including corsets and pantie girdles.

Current styles call for a girdle having elastic qualities capable of compressing the body to produce a smooth contour, upon which outer garments can be satisfactorily draped. To this end these girdles are commonly constructed of elastic material such as rubber, or woven, or knitted with elastic threads so that when applied the girdle will substantially compress the abdomen and hips of the wearer and in fact compress the entire body at the waist. In this connection such a girdle will, at the same time that it compresses the abdomen and hips, which are desirable leatures to have compressed, also compress the buttocks, which according to current styles should not be unduly compressed.

An object of the present invention is to provide an improved elastic girdle adapted for use as a foundation garment with means to oilset the compression of the buttocks and secure a smooth exterior contour for the figure, meeting the demands of current styles.

A further object of the invention is to produce a girdle of the type indicated with improved structural features adapted to enhance the effect of the garment.

Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description. Y

The invention consists in the novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

In accordance with the present invention the girdle I is constructed in any -improved manner of elastic material such as rubber or woven from elastic threads, being capable of being expanded and slipped around the waist of the wearer over the hips and buttocks, and when permitted to contract 4operating to compress the ilesh o!l the body encompassed thereby.

In accordance with the present invention two pockets are formed on the rear lace of this girdle,

- compressible material, such as for instance,

sponge rubber and are proportioned to substantially nil and snugly iit each of the pockets `2-2. When the garment provided with the pads as described is applied to the body the front portion of the girdle will, as usual, compress the abdomen to provide the substantially-straight iront, and the sides of the girdle will also operate as usual to compress the esh of the hips. However, while the buttocks will be compressed as usual the pads 5-5 will, while attened by the compression of the girdle tend to maintain the normal contour of those portions of the body, the pads, however, merging into the smooth outer contour of the girdle and being imperceptible through ordinary outer garments. It will also be notedthat by reason of the rounded shape, feathered edges, and compressible character oi the pads 5, the pads will, as the rear portion of the girdle is stretched, be gradually compressed in thickness in proportion as they are extended in area and this eiect will be proportional with the amount of tension applied to the girdle. Thus, in the case of stout persons the additional eiect of the pads will be less whereas with thin persons, where less expansion is exerted the pad will be v most effective to produce a desirable contour,

which is precisely the object desired.

By the' term girdle as used herein, corsets, pantie girdles and other similar garments are contemplated and included. Further, the means of forming the padding pockets may be varied -by the use of weaving, and other known expedients.

Various other modications of the device will readily suggest themselves to those skilledv in the art, but all within the scope of the present invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my claim:V l
