Application September 18, 1941, Serial No. 411,424
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a urine collector, and has for the primary object the provision of an efficient and economical device of this character which may be easily applied to a female infant for catching and directing urine into a test tube or other type of container for analysis purposes, the construction of the device being such that it will not annoy or render discomfort to the infant nor in any way interfere with the normal flow of urine from the female organ and will prevent leaking of the urine over parts of the infant and may be readily detached from the body garments of the infant when desired.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of our invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view showing an infant in a reclining position with the legs spread apart and illustrating the attachment or urine collector applied so as to cover the female organ.
Figure 2 is a perspective View illustrating the urine collector.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a substantially funnel shaped portion, the restricted part thereof forming a discharge tube 6. The large end of the substantially funnel shaped member has formed thereon a marginal flange l and integral with said flange are straps 8 having a certain amount of elasticity thereto. Carried by the free ends of the straps are fasteners 8 preferably in the form of safety pins whereby the straps may be readily attached and detached to the garment of a child, as shown in Figure 1, with one strap extending over the stomach while the other pair of straps extend across the buttocks of the child or infant and are secured to the garment at the back of the infant.
The straps applied to the garments of the infant as specified and shown in Figure 1 places the enlarged end of the funnel shaped member 5 directly over the female organ and due to the elasticity of the straps the flange 1 will be held tightly against the crotch of the infant.
A lip or extension to is integral with the flange and forms a perineal button which will snugly fit in the crotch extending towards the rectum for engaging the infant in the region of the perineum. Integral with the extension 10 where the latter forms onto the flange I is a transversely extending and arcuately curved flange or rib H acting as a stop or stay for urine to prevent the urine from passing along the crotch in the direction of the rectum from under the flange l. The perineal button Ill acts as a dam preventing loss of urine and directs the flow thereof away from the perineum and into the urinal. Any urine stopped by the rib I I will be to some extent redirected into the funnel-shaped portion 5. The tube part ii of the funnel shaped portion may be connected to a test tube or some other urine collection receptacle so that the urine may flow freely therein as discharged from the infant without any inconvenience, discomfort or irritation to the female organ.
It is to be noted that the funnel-shaped portion 5 as well as the straps are constructed of water proof material such as rubber and are capable of yielding and still will have sufiicient rigidity to maintain its original shape under normal conditions.
A device of the character shown and described can be economically manufactured and will be serviceable, durableand may be readily washed or cleansed and kept in a sanitary condition, and is extremely easy to apply and remove and will prevent the waste of urine over the child when discharged.
While we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
1. In a urine collector for female infants, a substantially funnel-shaped member including a wide mouth portion and a tubular portion for the directing of urine into a container, a marginal flange formed on the edges of the mouth portion of the funnel-shaped member and projecting at right angles thereto and adapted for positioning flatly against the body of the infant, elastic straps integral with the flange and extending in diverging relation with respect to each other, one strap adapted to extend upwardly across the stomach and a pair of straps adapted to extend upwardly across the buttocks, fasteners for the connection of said straps to the garment of an infant for supportin the funnel-shaped member to cover the female organ, and a perineal button integral with the flange and positioned between said pair of straps and adapted for engaging the infant in the region of the perineum.
2. In a urine collector for female infants, a substantially funnel-shaped member including a wide mouth portion and a tubular portion for the directing of urine into a container, a marginal flange formed on the edges of the mouth portion of the funnel-shaped member and projecting at right angles thereto and adapted for positioning 10 flatly against the body of the infant, elastic straps integral with the flange and extending in di verging relation with respect to each other, one
strap adapted to extend upwardly across the stomach and a pair of straps adapted to extend I5 into the funnel-shaped member.
