1 Claim.

The present invention relates to improvements in packages and more particularly to an attachment for the same.

Popcorn, potato chips and similar edible products having a greasy consistency are usually packaged in boxes, Cellophane bags and the like and are quite frequently consumed while reading or sitting in a vehicle. In eating these products the hands become soiled necessitating the use of a napkin which is not ordinarily furnished with the packaged products. By means of the present invention each package will contain a paper napkin suitably secured thereto and protected by means of a Cellophane cover attached to the package. The Cellophane cover will maintain the napkin in a sanitary condition for use by the purchaser and can be easily removed from the package after the wrapper has been detached therefrom.

It is, therefore, an important object of the present invention to provide a napkin packaged in a sanitary manner and attached to packaged products such as popcorn, potato chips and the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide a napkin with certain types of packaged edible products, the use of which will not materially increas production cost of the products but will aid in rendering the products more salable.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective View of a box-like package embodying the features of the present invention.

Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.

Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, there is disclosed a package 5 in the form of a box of the type generally employed for packaging popcorn and the like which includes a front wall 6 and top 1, the latter being formed with the usual closure tab 8 held in slits 9. For purposes of illustration only, a box-like package has been shown but it is to be understood that the form of the invention is adapted to be used with other types of packages such as bags of the type conventionally employed for containing potato chips, pretzels and the like.

A paper napkin I0 is positioned fiat-wise against the outer face of the wall 6, said napkin being preferably folded in the manner shown and positioned diagonally of the wall so as to be entirely supported thereon. The napkin I0 is covered by means of a strip of Cellophane H which extends entirely across the wall 5 and is secured to the sides thereof as indicated at [2 and to the bottom wall as indicated at l3. The Cellophane cover ll protects the napkin I0 from dirt, dust and the like and thereby maintains the same in a sanitary condition, it being understood that said cover fits tightly against the wall 6 so as to substantially preclude the possibility of dirt entering between said wall and cover. The cover being formed of Cellophane readily disposes the napkin to view and the nap-kin forming a part of the package will be an added incentive to the purchase of the product since the napkin provides a convenient means for cleaning the hands after eating the contents of the box.

For additionally securing the napkin to the front wall of the box, the upper corner l2 thereof projecting above the upper edge of the Cellophane cover I l is secured to the box by means of a staple or the like l3. The corner l2 forms a tab to be engaged when desiringto detach the napkin from the box, it being merely necessary for the user to engage said tab and urge the same outwardly from the box until freed from the staple, then by pulling upwardly the napkin will be completely removed from the Cellophane cover. If desired, the Cellophane cover can be cut and removed from the box and the napkin then detached from the staple.

Also it will be understood, of course, by those skilled in the art that variations in the hereinabove described device involving the substitution of substantial equivalents for the devices described are intended to be comprehended within the spirit of the present invention and that the invention is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed ,in the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

In a package, the combination with a box of still material, of a sheet of flexible transparent material having its major area disposed in face to face covering relation with the exterior surface of one wall of the box, the said sheet being secured tothe box by marginal portions adhesively atof the box wall and having an end portion projecting exteriorly of the unattached edge of the sheet, and a fastening element securing the projecting portion of the napkin against the said 5 exterior box wall surface.
