Description

Nov. 23, 1943. 5. LA FAIR HAIR ORNAMENT Filed April 3, 1941 fzderdo Januzeilk 29271) Patented Nov. 23, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HAIR ORNAMENT Samuel La Fair, Philadelphia, Pa.
Application April 3, 1941, Serial No. 386,670
2 Claims.
This invention relates to hair ornaments, that is to say decorative articles adapted to be applied to the hair of women and girls to enhance their attractiveness.
More specifically considered the invention relates to an artificial flower bunch, provided with means whereby the same may be quickly and conveniently attached to the hair of the wearer, with a minimum of effort, and which when properly positioned will be firmly and efliciently held in place.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a floral decoration for womens hair which may be inexpensively made, which will be attractive in appearance, which may be easily and readily positioned at the desired place, and which, when so positioned on the wearers hair, will be firmly held without likelihood of becoming accidentally detached.
The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a womans head showing a floral ornament of the present invention mounted in place thereon;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the device detached;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a clamping member constituting one of the principal elements of the device before the same is incorporated in the complete structure; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a clip employed for securing the artificial flower bunch to the clamping member shown in Fig. 4.
It will, of course, be understood that the description and drawing herein are illustrative merely, and that various minor changes may be made in the structure disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, in the particular embodiment of the invention therein shown, I0 is a spray or bunch of artificial flowers which may be of any desired type and may preferably include several leaves. The bunch is preferably arranged somewhat in the form of a boutonniere, having a stem-like extension H at the rear.
For securing the ornament to the hair, there is preferably provided a clamping member l2 comprising a piece of flat spring steel wire bent on itself to form two legs l3 and I4 extending adjacent to each other. The free end of one of the legs l3 may be bent outwardly as at l5, if desired, to facilitate the insertion of the clamping member into the body of the hair of the wearer. A
device now in common use and known as a bobby-pin may be used for the clamping member.
The clamping member 12 is secured to the stem portion II of the floral device H) by means of a clip l6 shown detached in Fig. 5 of the drawing. The same comprises a central portion I"! which extends around and partially surrounds one of the legs I3 of the clamping member I2 at a point intermediate the ends thereof. The clip I6 has two side portions or ears l8 suitably bent and formed to engage and grip the sides of the stem portion ll of the floral device Ill.
The ornament may be readily and quickly attached to the hair of the wearer by merely pushing the same inwardly against the hair at the desired location, after which the clamping member [2 will hold the same securely in place until the wearer desires to remove it,.whereupon it may be readily withdrawn.
By the foregoing arrangement, there is provided a desirable ornament which may be readily and quickly positioned on the hair of the wearer, and which may be as readily removed therefrom without any complications, and which when worn will add considerably to the attractiveness of the wearer.
I claim:
1. A hair ornament comprising a floral device consisting of one or more artificial flowers and the like and having a depending stem portion, a clamping member comprising a single piece of a spring steel wire bent on itself to provide closely contiguous leg portions, the stem portion of the floral device extending parallel to the leg portions of the clamping member and a clip member securing a portion of the floral device to one of the leg portions of the clamping member at a point intermediate the ends thereof.
2. A hair ornament comprising a floral device consisting of one or more artificial flowers and the like and having a depending stem portion, a clamping member comprising a single piece of a spring steel wire bent on itself to provide closely contiguous leg portions, the stem portion of the floral device extending in close parallel relationship to one of the leg portions of the clamping member and a clip member partially surrounding a leg portion of the clamping member and having ear portions extending around the sides of the stem portion of the floral device and closely gripping the same thereby to secure the floral device to the clamping member.
