1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in garters, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of this character embodying a novel construction whereby it may be conveniently used as a tourniquet.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a garter of the aforementioned character having mounted thereon a first aid kit of novel construction.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a garter of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a View in front elevation of a garter constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view in rear elevation.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one end portion of the garter, showing one of the closure flaps of the first aid kit open.
Figure 5 is a view in front elevation, showin the garter in use.
Figure 6 is a cross sectional view through the first aid kit.
Figure 7 is a cross sectional view through the garter with the first aid kit mounted thereon.
Figure 8 is a detail view in perspective of one of the kit attaching devices.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that reference character I designates generally a garter. The garter I includes a le encircling strap 2 of suitable resilient material. Pivotally secured by the shank of a. stud 3 on one end portion of the strap I is a tap 4. Mounted on the free end of the tab 4 is a fastener 5 which is adapted to be clamped to a sock.
The other end portion of the strap 2 has formed therein a longitudinal slot 6. Mounted for adjustment in the slot 6 is a bolt 1. A hook 8 is pivotally mounted on the bolt I, the purpose of which hook will be presently set forth.
Mounted on the resilient strap I is a first aid kit 9. In the embodiment shown, the kit 9 com prises a flat tube Ill of suitable flexible material having a series of pockets therein for the recep- I and I6, respectively, having one end hingedly tion of various first aid articles or supplies. Openings II permit access to these pockets. Integral closure flaps I 2 are provided for the pocket openings II. Snap fasteners I3 releasably secure the closures I2 in closed position.
The kit 9 is removably secured on the resilient strap 2 by fasteners I4. As illustrated to advantage in Figures 7 and 8 of the drawings, the fasteners I4 comprise metallic loops including substantially U-shaped upper and lower sections connected at H. The other end portions of the fastener sections I5 and I5 are detachably connected by snap fasteners I8. The fasteners I4 are secured at I9 to the lower portion of the kit 9. Of course, the fasteners I4 pass around the strap 2.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, when the device is to be used as a garter, as suggested in Figure 5 of the drawings, the resilient strap 2, with the kit 9 thereon, is wrapped around the leg and secured by engaging the hook 8 with the stud 3. The fastener 5 on the free end of the tab 4 is then secured to the sock. It will thus be seen that a first aid kit is always conveniently at hand. When the device is to be used as a tourniquet, the kit 9 is removed and the resilient strap 2 is wrapped tightly around the injured limb and again secured by engaging the hook 8 with the stud 3. If desired, a long tourniquet may be had by simply connecting two of the garters through the medium of the fastener 5 on one of said garters. That is, the fastener 5 on one of the garters is secured on the end portion of the other garter which carries the hook 8.
It is believed that the many advantages of a combination device constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A garter comprising a resilient limb encircling strap, a tab pivotally connected to one end portion of the strap, a fastener on said tab, a stud on said one end portion of the strap, the other end portion of the strap having a longitudinal slot therein, a bolt mounted for adjustment in the slot, and a hook pivotally mounted on the bolt and engageable with the stud for detachably connecting the ends of the strap.
