Patented Dec. 26, 1944 DIAPER Elizabeth M. Garden, Beauport East, Quebec, Canada Application March 30, 1942, Serial No. 436,907 1 Claim. (01. 128-284.)
This invention relates apers.
The primary object of this invention is a diaper which .is provided with adjustable fastening means formed .as part of the diaper by means of which the diaper can be adjusted as to size.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a diaper which is formed with fasteners as. part :of the construction therof, thus obviatto improvements in diits adjustment to suit the stature A further object of this invention is the provisionv of a diaper having both waist and length adjustments.
will permit of simple and accurate adjustment of the diaper upon the infant. Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the detailed description.
In the accompanyingdrawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar refer- 24 of the diaper.
ence characters designate corresponding parts, 7
thruout the several views,
Figure 1 is a view showing the preferred form of my diaper in extended relation.
Figure 2 is a view showing the manner in which the improved fastening means may be adjusted, as to girth of the infant.
Figure 3 is a View showing the assemblage of the diaper as it would appear upon an infant and particularly showing the improved fastener arrangement.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view taken thru a marginal portion of the diaper, showing the preferred formation of the diaper body.
Figure 5 is a view of a modified form of triangular-shaped diaper with snap fastener arrangements corresponding to the button and button-hole arrangement of the form of diaper shown in Figure 1. y
Figure 5 is a view, partly in section, showing a modified type of combination male and female snap fastener used with the diaper form of Figure 5.
Figure 6 is a rectangular-shaped form of diaper having my improved fastening arrangement associated thereon.
Figure 7 is a view showing how one side of the diaper is adjusted upon the body of an infant.
Figure 8 is a assemblage of the upon an infant.
Figure 9 is a cross sectional view taken thru a margin of the diaper, showing the preferred construction thereof.
Figure 10 is a view showing a modified form of snap fastener arrangement for the diaper of rectangular shape.
The diaper of Figure 1, designated at A, is of the old fashioned triangular shape. It is com structed of double layers l5 and I6,-as shown in Figure '4 of the drawings; the margins of both layers [5 and I 6 being inturned as shown at 11 diaper as it would appear when and stitched l8 marginally around the entire diaper.
The fastener arrangement consists in providing at one corner 200i the diaper three buttonholes 2!, 22 and '23-, the openings of which have their axes parallel with the waist margin At the 0pp0site waist corner 25 the diaper'body is provided with buttons 26,
21 and 28, whichare arranged in a line parallel with the edge 2 3. Buttons 26, 21 and 23 are adapted to be buttoned in the openings 2|, 22 and 23. Any oneof the buttons can be fastened in any one of the buttonholes provided therefor, so that the diaper A may be adjusted waistwise, as to size, to suit the girth of the in-.
fant wearing the same. The application of this triangular-shaped diaper, with respect to the above description, is shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The diaper A is furthermore other corner 30 with buttonholes 3|, 32 and 33, the axes of which are in line and arranged with said line normal to the margin 24 of the diaper, and intersecting said margin 24 at the center or midway of the length thereof. These buttonholes 3|, 32 and 33 are adapted to receive the buttons 26, 21 or 28 the buttonholes 3l-33 extended, at the time the diaper is placed upon the infant. The assemblage is shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, but
In the form of diaper A shown in Figure 5, in place of the buttons 26, 21 and 28, I prefer to provide the socket or female portions 40, 4| and 42 of a snap fastener arrangement for the diaper. In place of the buttonholes 2|, 22 and 23 of the form of invention A, I prefer to provide combination male and female snap fasteners 43, 44 and 45. One of these is shown in detail in Figure 5 of the perspective view showing the provided at the" which lie along the axis of .tonholes 3 I,
drawings wherein 48 designates the portion fastened between the layers of the diaper, preferably by stitching; the stud or male portion 49 at one side thereof and the socket or female portion 50*- at the opposite side thereof. Upon the diaper form A the male portions are shown in Figure 5, and of course the female portions are at the opposite side. The male portions are adapted for use with the fasteners 40, 4| and 42. In the form of invention A teners 50, SI and 52 replace respectively the but- 32 and 33 of the form of invention A andthey are adapted for adjustment in the socket portion 50 of the snap fasteners 43, 44 and 45 in a manner which is perfectly apparent.
Referring to the modem or rectangulap shaped diaper B, the same is formed of layers 60 and GI. The material of any of the diapers of thisinvention is optional. The layers are, of course, flexible and the layers 60 and GI are marginally inturned and stitched at 62, as shown in Fig. 9.
The diaper B is provided at one corner 10 with three buttonholes II, 12 and 13, the axes of said buttonholes being in line and parallel with the waist edge I4 of the back of the diaper. The opposite waist corner 16 f the diaper is similarly provided with buttonhole I1, 18 and 19, the axes of which are arranged parallel with the waist margin 14 of the diaper. At the opposite end of the rectangular-shaped diaper the corner 80 is provided with buttons 8|, 82 and 83 which are adapted for adjustable and detachable securement with the opening ll, I2 and 13. These buttons 8l-83 are arranged with their centers in a line'which is parallel with the waist margin 85 of the end of the diaper upon which said buttons are positioned. At the opposite corner 86 the diaper is similarly provided with buttons 90, 9I and 92 which are adapted for respective connection with the openings 11, I8 and I9. The centers of the buttons 90, 9I' and 92 are arranged in a line parallel with the margin 85.
It will of course be understood that any of the buttons 8I83 may be secured in any of the openings II-I3, and similarly any of the buttons 90-92 may be connected in any of the openings 11-49 in order to properly adjust the diaper to the girth of the wearer.
the male snap fas-- It is to be noted that whereas the rectangularshaped diaper B is only waistwise adjustable, the diaper of the form of invention shown in Figures 1 and 5 is adjustable lengt wise as well as waistwise.
In the form of diaper B, shown in Figure 10, snap fasteners are substituted for the buttons and buttonhole arrangement of the form of invention B. Thus, I provide female snap fastener portions I00, IM and I02 for detachable association with the snap fastener male portions I03, I04 and I05 at the opposite end of the diaper. Similarly I provide female snap fastener portions I01, I08 and I09 for adjustable detachable connection with the male snap fastener portions I III, III and H2 at the opposite end corner of the diaper B. The arrangement and relation of the snap fastener parts of the diaper B are exactly the same as that for the form of invention B, and for both of these forms B and B the adjustment of the diaper waistwise is the same.
Various changes in the shape, size, and form of diaper upon which the improved fastening means is arranged may be made to the invention, without departing from the spirit of the same or the scope of the claim.
I claim:
A diaper comprising a flexible triangular body having a hypotenuse margin which is adapted to be assembled waistwise around the infant, said diaper at one corner thereof and parallel with the hypotenuse edge having a plurality of combination male and female snap fastener portions each of which presents at one side of the diaper a male fastener portion and at the opposite side of the diaper a female fastener portion, a plurality of female snap fastener portions at the opposite corner of the diaper parallel with the hypotenuse edge. adapted for snap' fastener cooperation with the male portions of the combination female and male snap fastener portions first mentioned, and a plurality of male snap fastener portions at the apex of the diaper adapted for selective snap fastener connection with the socket portions of the combination male and female snap fastener portions first mentioned.
