Dust Brush. v
' Patented Feb. 1 1881.
Y r I INVENTEIR: .yvl wzss s= 5 a. Z ag-'4 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY E. ARMSTRONG, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
DUST-BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,154, dated February 1, 1881.
Application filed November 15, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY E. ARMSTRONG, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction of Dust- Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and. exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the construction of dust-brushes The invention consists in forming a dustbrush of a center part composed of bristles or similar elastic material having a sufficient degree of stiffness, and an outside part or surrounding of wool shreds of cloth, or similar soft material. By this combination depressed surfaces in carved furniture can be reached by the elastic center of the brush, while the softer portion removes the dust. from plane or prominent surfaces.
In cleaning out corners this invention combines the uses of the brush and cloth or Wool,
(Model) at once dusting out the corner, which a wool duster alone could not do, and collecting instead of scattering the dust, as a bristle brush alone must.
In the drawing, which is a longitudinal crosssection of the improved dust-brush, A represents the center portion of the brush, made of bristles or similar elastic material. B represents the outer or surrounding portion, formed of wool or other soft material, both being secured to the handle 0 by any of the usual methods.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a dust-brush of the form shown, composed of a slightly stiff and elastic center, and a soft outside or surrounding of wool or other inelastic material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARY E. ARMSTRONG.
