` iclaim.l (ci. 121-164) This invention relates to new and useful irn-` provements in pumps of the `deep well type.'
The-principal object of the present invention I is to provide apum'p of the double acting type actuated by iiuid under pressure and adapted to have a lifting power considerably `greater than pumps of this general character in present-day use. i f
Other objects and advantages of the invention I will become apparent to `the readerof the following description.
In the drawings:
per `end of the cylinder 22 to pass througha `packing gland 26 in the lower header I5 ofthe, I Vcylinder I3.` The upper end of the piston rod 24 `within `thecylinder I3 hasa piston 2'I.`
Figurel is a side elevational view ofthe pump located in a well. t
Figure 2 is a fragmentary `vertical sectional view through the cylinders.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the pump cylinf` der with the connection removed. I
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the automatic valve. I
Figure 5 is a fragmentary `vertical sectional view showing one of the ilap valves.
rReferring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure 1, that numeral 5; denotes the ground level, while numeral 6 denotes a well. On the ground 5 is a suitable platform 'I` upon which is a motor or other power plant 8 rdriving a pump I 9 which is connected to a sump `IIl and has a I pressure line Il extending therefrom.
Numeral I2 generally refers to the improved lower portion `of the pressure cylinder 22, while `the port33 is connected by a `pipe 40 to the up- Numeral 28 denotes an automatic valvefor distributing fluid under pressure to the pressure ure 4) denoted by numeral 29 and having ports 30, 3|, 32, 33 and 34 andv inside of thecase29 is an oscillatory element 35`l1aving a tapered porl tion 36. I ,i
I'I'he exhaust or return ports 30, 34 are in cornymunication with a connecting pipe 31 which, in I turn, is connected by a pipe 38 to the sump I0( The port 3| is connected by a pipe j 39 to the per portion of the cylinder 22. The pressure line I I communicates with'the valve 28 at the port`32` The valve element`35`is controlled lby an arm 4I I which connects to a vertically disposed rod 42 hav-l ing lugs 43, 44 at the upper and lower ends thereof.' A collar Vor likeactuating element 45 is pr'o-` vided on the piston rod 24 and obviously` as the piston moves up and down, the collar 45 will act i on the` lugs of the `rod 42` to alternately change the valve for delivering pressure to the upper and lower ends of the cylinder 22.
cylinder assembly, one form of which is employed in the well as shown in Figure 1.
The form vof cylinder assembly shown in Figure 2, consists of a pump cylinder I3 having headers I4, I5at the upper and lower ends thereof. The cylinder I3 has a supplemental wall I5a dening a passageway IE through which the fluid being pumped can rise from the lower portion of the cylinder I3 to an eduction line I'I.
The eduction line I1 is connected to the header I4'a'nd the header I4 has ari" outlet valve I3 therein. The upperv portion of the cylinder I3 has an inlet valve generally referred to by numeral I9, while the lower portion of the cylinder I 3has an inlet valve 2li.c The latter end'of the cylinder I3 has an' outlet valve 2|. 2l are of the ap type, one `of which is shown in detail in Figure 5.
Referring to Figure 2, it can be seen that numeral 22 denotes a pressure cylinder having a piston 23 therein I A' rod 24 extends from the piston 23 through a packing gland 25 in the up,-
The valves I9, anda Having described the i claimed as new is: I .I I I f i In a pumping apparatus for installation in a" While, the foregoing fspecication sets forth the yinvention in specic terms, it is to be understood that numerous `changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departa`s claimed hereinafter.
deep well, including a pressure cylinder, and a cylinder 22 and this consists of a case (see Fig-` ing from the spirit and scopeof the invention invention, what is I frame, a double acting piston in said cylinder,
and a piston rod extending. through the frame,
the combination of an automatic valve carried :by said frame,` an operating arm for said'valve extending into said frame,` a verticallydisposed member having protrusions at the upper and lower ends thereof connectedto said arm, aifluid pressure line connected to said valve, conduits extending from vthe valve to opposite ends of said cylinder, and, means on said piston rod en gageable alternatelyl with said protrusions to actuate said valve alternately to open one or` the other of theendsof` said cylinder to said fluid pressure line.
