A further object of the invention is to provide an attachable toe cap for shoes, which will be made of plastic material, and which can be molded, embossed and otherwise finished to produce desirable styling effects, or which may be made along lines of extreme simplicity, and which will, when attached, be united to the shoe welt by special stitching or cementing, or otherwise, without disturbing the existing stitching or construction of the upper and the sole.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of an attachable shoe toe cap, which can be united to the shoe Welt, and which will also provide a wear piece for the tip of the sole.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of of the attachable plastic shoe cap in position on the shoe, and providing a wear piece for the tip of the sole.

Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the modified attachable shoe cap shown detached from the shoe.

Referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating the practical construction of the invention 5 designates the sole of a childs shoe and 6 the upper thereof. Over the toe of the shoe I show my improved toe cap I. This cap is formed with a molded dome or hood portion 8 and with an attaching flange or rim 9, which is formed with stitch holes 9a, and which is directly secured to the shoe welt 5a, by means of the stitching 5b.

In attaching the improved plastic shoe cap to the shoe the meeting faces of the shoe welt and the marginal flange or rim 9 may be coated with plastic cement, or any other type of cement, and heat applied thereto, and then the welt stitching completed through the united flange and welt, so as to reinforce the cement union.

The attachable plastic cap may be given any color or styling treatment, and embossed or otherwise finished according to any plain pattern or decorative scheme.

The plastic used may be any material suitable for the purpose, and is preferably of the type known as laminated or textile plastics, which is made up of layers of woven cloth impregnated with plastic material, so that the entire mass is bonded into a single unit. The fibres of the cloth give tensional strength to the completed sheet material, and also improve its resistance to wear, and the reinforced plastic sheet may be molded to any desired form.

The attachable plastic shoe cap may be used on any shoe, new or old, to give increased strength and wearing qualities to the shoe, or to give different styling effects than the original design and manufacture of the shoe presented.

In Figs. 4 and 5 I show an attachable shoe toe cap l0, consisting of the hood part II, the welt engaging rim l2, and the wear plate or piece l3, which underlies the tip of the sole I4. The wear plate or piece I3 is united to the rim I2 by means of the edge portion I5, which also forms a Wear absorbing surface for the forward edge portion of the sole.

In this modified construction the cap thus provides a sheath for the entire forward end of the shoe, including a toe cap, a wear plate for the sole tip, and a connecting intermediate portion for taking up wear thrusts imposed on the forward edge of the sole.

As in the former construction, the toe cap and sheath or shield shown in Figs. 4 and 5, is constructed of molded plastic material, including laminated plastic, consisting of a plurality of layers of cloth and a bonding of plastic or resinous material, the whole forming a tenacious, brilliant, and adaptable form, conforming to the shoe style and fit, and united by plastic or other cement thereto to form an essential part of the shoe itself.

In both forms of the invention the attachable shoe toe cap may be coated on the inner surface with a thermo setting plastic film, and the shoe also coated with a plastic film which-will unite with the inner film of theshoe cap, adhesion being accomplished between the treated engaging surfaces by the application of heat and pressure.

In addition the welt stitching may be employed in each form of the invention, as it serves not only to bind the shoe welt to the toe cap, but also is completely blended with it.

Having described my invention I claim as new: 1. An attachable shoe cap consisting of a shield constructed to enclose the toe of a shoe, the side edges of the forward part of the sole and the undersurface of the sole and having a theme setting film on its inner surface adapted to be cemented directly to the'shoe on which the shoe cap is placed.

2. An attachable shoe cap formed of fabric 5 reinforced plastic material molded to fit the toe of a shoe and provided with a welt engaging marginal flange and having a film of thermoplastic material on its irmer surface whereby the shoe cap can be cemented directly to the shoe in 10 the presence of heat.
