In Brazil October 15, 1943 1 Claim. (Cl. 229 77) This invention relates to a new clasping device for bags, purses, brief cases, portfolios, folders or like containers, characterized by its simplicity and adaptability to the flap of any container, whether made of paper, cardboard, wood, leather, or any other material.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the device as applied to a portfolio made of cardboard or similar material.
Figure I shows the new clasping device in accordance with the invention, closing the portfolio, and
Figure II illustrates the component parts of the clasping device as set in the flap and body of the portfolio, which is shown open.
As shown in the drawing, the new clasping device for bags, purses, brief cases, portfolios or folders, as applied by way of example to a portfolio consisting of a container or folder I and a flap 2, comprises essentially: two clips 3 made of metal or other material, bent downward as shown in 4, fastened on to the front of the body of the portfolio I; two openings 5 in the.
fiap 2 at such height as to allow the free passage of the clips 3 when the flap 2 is folded over the body I for the purpose of closing'the portfolio (Figure I); two small metal or like plates 6 set horizontally and having a constriction in the centre forming a neck or loop 1, these plates 6 being fixed on to the inside of the flap 2, as shown in Figure II; and finally, a strip of 8138-. tic or other material 8 (Figure I), extended along the outside of the flap 2 the ends of which are doubled over and pass through apertures in the flap (not shown in the drawing), entering the neck or loop 1 of the plates 6, as shown in 9, whereby the strip is fastened and made taut, and thus fixing the plates 6 on to the inside surface of the flap 2 (Figure II). The ends of the elastic or like strip may also be fastened by any other convenient means or arrangement.
Operation In order to fasten the bag, portfolio, folder or like container, the flap 2 is folded over the body I, whereby the clips 3 enter the openings 5, the curved portions 4 thus jutting out through the openings 5. The strip 8 is then pulled down and passed under the clips 3, as represented in Figure I.
It will be understood that the present inventhe same, at least two open hooks secured spaced apart from each other to that portion of said flat front face of said container which is covered by said flat closing flap when the same is in closing position folded over said front face of said container, at least two openings in said flat closing flap corresponding to said open hooks on said front face of said container so that the same project through said openings when said flat closing. flap is folded over said flat front face and thus closes said container, and an elastic strip member firmly secured at both ends to the outer face of said flap in such a manner as to engage said open hooks projecting through said openings in said flat closing flap and to prevent disengagement of the same from said openings and said flat closing flap in which the same are provided, when said container is'closed by said fiat closing flap with said open hooks passing through said openings in said fiat closing flap and engaging said elastic strip member.
