UNITED STATES PATENT "OFFICE.
ALBERT ROUSSEAUX, OF BRUSSELS, BELGIUM.
INHALER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,196, dated March 22, 1881.
Application filed November 19, 1880. (No model.) Patented in Belgium October 27, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT ROUSSEAUX, of Brussels, Belgium, have invented a new and Improved Tar-lnhaling Cigar, also applicable for inhaling other substances, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to furnish means by which air impregnated with tar or other medical odors can be inhaled for penetration to the bronchial tubes and lungs.
The invention consists in a cigarholder or mouth-piece fitted with a cigar-shapedportion containing tar or other materials formed with air conduits, and providedwith a cover perfo rated for admission of air, so that by being held in the mouth the user can inhale the exterior air, which, on passing through the cigar and holder, becomes impregnated with the tar, medicine, or other material used.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the complete device. 2 is a side View of the mouth-piece and tube, and Fig. 3 shows the'envelope separate.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the holder or mouth-piece, made in the form of an ordinary cigar-holder.
G is a small tube, attached to the holder A, having its aperture D corresponding to an aperture formed through the holder.
B is the envelope or coveriu g, which is made in the form of a cigar, with a closed outer end, and adapted for fitting snugly on holder A and over the material that is placed on the tube C. At any desired place in envelope B are holes F F, for admission of air.
The tube 0 is to be covered with tar, medicine, &c. Preferably the tube will first be covered with a layer of cotton or wadding, so that the material will adhere more readily, and such material is to be renewed from time to time, as required. A flange, E, on the end of tube 0 assists in retaining the material.
The material for the holder and tube may be wood, horn, bone, ivory, metal, amber, meerschaum, or other suitable substance. The envelope may also be of any suitable material, and, in order to better imitate a cigar in appearance, it may be covered with tobaccodeaf, and its end may be given an ashy color. c
The device being held in the users mouth and air inhaled through it, the air passing in at openings F becomes charged with the properties of the tar or other material on tube 0 before passing through the aperture ofthe-tube to the mouth.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An inhaler consisting of the longitudinallyperforated mouth-piece A, the correspondingly-perforated tube D G, and the envelope B, having air-holesF, said envelope being closed at the outer end and adapted to fit on tube 0 up against the mouth-piece A, as shown and described.
ALBERT ROUSS EAUX.
