Description
Feb. 4, 1947. v s. H. TODD GOLF CLUB CARRIER Filed July 16, 1945 6 96a Z00 Z2 Patented Feb. 4, 1947 This invention relates to a device for carrying golf clubs and the like where it is not desired to carry a golf bag around over the playing course. It is so designed that it can be folded and slipped into a golf bag and then when a player is unable to obtain the services of a caddy to carry his bag, he can select certain olubsfrom his bag and remove this apparatus and unfold the same and place his selected clubs in the carrier and carry them around himself without having to carry around many different clubs which he rarely uses.
It is an object of this invention to provide a collapsible member having a pair of spaced perforate-d members into which golf clubs can be slipped, these perforated members being hingedly connected to a handle member and having means for holding them either in unfolded position or for holding them into folded position when not in use.
It is another object of this invention to provide a golf club carrier comprising a handle member and a pair of spaced members disposed at right angles to the handle member and each having a plurality of holes into which the shaft portions of golf clubs can be inserted for carrying the golf clubs, whereby a player can carry his oWn clubs without the necessity of having a caddy and without the necessity of carrying a heavy golf bag around with a great number of clubs therein which the player seldom uses.
Some of the objects of the invention havin been stated, other objects will appear as-the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the apparatus;
Figure 3 is an end view of the apparatus looking from the left hand and of Figure 1 and omitting the golf club.
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the apparatus showing it in folded position.
Referring more specifically to the drawing the numeral 9 indicates a handle member having enlarged end portions l and I I. These end portion In and H have vertically disposed holes 12 and I3 and horizontally disposed holes l4 and I5, respectively, in which bolts 16 and I! are adapted to be placed, the bolts l6 and I! when the device is in assembled position being disposed in holes I 4 and I5; Whereas, when the apparatus is in collapsed position, the bolts I6 and I? will be disposed in holes l2 and I3, respectively. The portion H has its upper surface raised somewhat above the upper surface of the handle portion 9 and left hand end portion ill and has a hinge 20 3 Claims. (01. -45.)
secured thereto, the other leaf of which is secured to a perforated board 2'! having a plurality of holes 22 therein. To the portion iii there is socured one leaf of a hinge member whose other leaf is secured to a perforated board member 26 having a plurality of holes 2? therein. The holes in the board members it and 2f: coincide so that golf clubs 28 can be passed through coinciding holes in the board members 29. and 28 which will thus enable a player to carry as many clubs along with him as he desires up to the number of holes in the board member 2! and 26.
If desired, the handle member 9 may have a plurality of cavities 29 therein in which suitable tees 36 may be disposed so that they will be handy for use when the player desires a tee. The bolts I6 and it have suitable thumb nuts Eta and Na threadably mounted thereon whereby the apparatus can be held in assembled position as shown in Figures 1, 2, and 3 or in collapsed condition as shown in Figure 4, as the bolts in each instance penetrate suitable holes l8 and [9 in boards 25 and 25, respectively.
It is thus seen that I have provided a golf club carrying apparatus which can be quickly assembled by the same bolts which hold it in collapsed condition and thus it is ready for the carrying of any desired number of clubs without the necessity of the player carrying his golf bag along with him.
In the drawing and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention, and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only, and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being defined in the claims.
I claim:
1. A golf club carrying apparatu comprising a handle member and a pair of boards hingedly connected to each end of the handle member, said boards having a plurality of coinciding perforations therein through which golf clubs may be inserted for carrying the same, said board members being foldable to overlapping position in parallel relation to the handle and being adapted to occupy a parallel position at right angles to the handle member when unfolded, and a bolt penetrating a hole in each of the ends of the handle member for holding the board members in parallel assembled position relative to the handle member and being insertable through another set of two holes in the handle member for holding the board members in collapsed position.
2. A golf club carrying apparatus comprising a handle member and a pair of perforated. board members hingedly connected to each end of the handle member, said board members having a plurality of coinciding perforations therein through which golf clubs can be inserted for carrying the same, said handle member having a pair of longitudinally extending holes therethrough and also having a pair of transversely disposed holes therethrough, the board members each having a hole therethrough, a pair of bolts adapted to penetrate the holes in the board members, said bolts being adapted to be also passed through the longitudinally extending holes for holding the board members in parallel assembled position relative to the handle member and being adapted to be passed through the board members and the transversely disposed holes in the handle member for holding the boards in overlapping collapsed position relative to the handle member.
3. A golf club carrying apparatus having a handle member and a pair of boards hingedly secured at each end of the handle member, said boards having a plurality of coinciding holes therethrough through which golf clubs may be inserted for carrying the same, the board members being hingedly connected to each end of the handle member and being adapted to occupy a parallel position and pressing against each end of the handle member when in assembled position relative thereto ready for carrying golf clubs and being adapted to occupy an overlapping folded ter of the handle member when collapsed and not I in use, said handle member having a pair of longitudinally extending holes therethrough and having a pair of transversely extending holes therethrough and a pair of bolt members adapted to be passed through the longitudinally extending holes and through suitable holes in the boards for holding the boards in assembled parallel position against each end of the handle member and said bolts being also adapted to pass through the same holes in the board members and the transversely extending holes for holding the board members in overlapped folded position and in a position which is parallel to the longitudinal center of the handle member.
