This invention relates to baseball gloves and is particularly directed to a novel glove construction. for use by baseball players occupying the positions of fielders, pitchers, or basemen other than the first base position.

An object of the invention is to provide a novel glove construction which has a reenforced area adjacent the ball pocket portion, said construction precluding the separation of the glove fingers and materially reducing the bending back of said fingers at the moment of ball impact therewith to thereby insure greater facility in catching a ball.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel glove construction which has a more solid, a deeper anda larger ball pocket than conventional baseball gloves now adapted and used for the aforementioned purposes.

A further object of the invention is to provide a base ball glove structure which permits its wearers catching hand to assume a more natural position and ofiers greater protection to the fingers from injury by a ball when it is not caught perfectly. The glove is particularly adapted, by its novel structure, for use in the game of baseball at the pitching position, where batted balls are caught when driven at short distances and at relatively high speeds,

A still further object of the invention is to provide a baseball glove of a simplified construction which is more serviceable because it is composed of a fewer number of parts, fewer seams are required in making it, and consequentlythere isless likelihood of seams tearing or ripping during use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a baseball glove of the foregoing identified type wherein the palm section has certain fingers interconnected throughout substantially their entire lengths by an integrally formed web portion, the corresponding fingers back sections for the finger portion ofthe palm section terminating centrally of said fingers backs and also provided with integrally formed webportions which extend between said fingers.

Another object of the invention is to provide a baseball glove of the type described which has a relatively rigid and deep ball pocket principally effected by the interconnection of the index and middle fingers throughout substantially their entire lengths by cooperating web portions formed in the material of the palm and back sections of the glove, said webs terminating short of the said finger tips to form a marginal indentation between the fingers to provide rela- 2 tively flexible finger tips for catching balls hit along the ground, or the like. The embodiment of my inventioncomprises a baseball glove l0 consisting of an integral palm section II and a composite back 12. The palm section is formed with an index finger portion l4 and a middle finger portion l5 which are joined together throughout substantially their entire lengths by an integral web Iii. This webportion extends from the bases of said finger" portions to a point which terminates just short of said finger tips to thereby form a marginal indentation 11 between said fingers. The finger portions 18 and 19 of the glove for the ring finger and the little finger respectively of the wearers hand may also be connected throughout substantially their entire lengths by a web 20 which also forms with the tips of the said fingers a marginal indentation 2|.

As illustrated in the drawings a relatively deep slit 22 is formed between the middle and the ring fingers portions of the palm section but it is understood that a web could also be interpositioned between these finger sections without departing from the scope and teachings of this invention. The palm section is also provided with integral side extensions 23 and 24 which form the outer half of the backs for the index finger and the little finger respectively.

The composite back I2 for the glove is most clearly illustrated in Figs. 1, 5 and 6 and includes two back fingers sections 25 and 25 which form webs disposed between the index and middle fingers and the ring and little fingers respectively. The outer edge 21 of the back fingers section 25 is joined to the longitudinal edge 28 of the side extension 23 by a sewed seam 29. The rear edge 30 of said section terminates at the hand hole 3|. The outer edge 32 of the back fingers section 26 is secured to the inner edge of the side extension 24 by a sewed seam 33, said section being provided with a narrow extension 34 to form the side edge for the hand hole 3!.

The back fingers sections 25 and 26 extend between their respective fingers and terminate at the longitudinal center lines thereof, the inner edge 35 of the section 25 being joined to longitudinal edge 36 of an intermediate back finger section 3'! by a seam 38, whilst the inner edge 39 of the section 26 is secured to a longitudinal edge 30 of a corresponding intermediate back finger section 4| by a sewed seam 42. ' It will therefore be noted that a deep and solid pocket 41 (Fig. 2) is formed in the glove between the thumb l3 and the index and middle finger portions l4 and I5 respectively which precludes the separation of said fingers and materially reduces the bending back of the users said gloved finger adjacent the pocket. What is claimed is:

1. In a baseballglove for protecting a players hand, the combination of an outer casing having an integral palm section and a composite back, said palm section having finger portions and side extensions each of the latter covering substantially the outer rear half of the index finger and the little finger, a deep slit formed in the palm section between the middle and ring finger portions and extending inwardly to the crotch between the corresponding fingers of a players hand, a web interconnecting the index finger portion and the middle finger portion of the palm section, a second web interconnecting the ring finger portion and the little finger portion of the The tips of the finger portion.

4 palm section, said webs forming a solid section between the respective finger portions from the palm outwardly to substantially the finger tips to provide shallow indentations in th palm section between said interconnected finger portions, the composite back havin a finger back section disposed adjacent each side thereof, means for securing the longitudinal outer-edge of each back section to the adjacent edge of the side extension, one of said finger back sections extending transversely to the center of the middlle finger, and said other finger back section extending transversely to the center of ring finger, and each having. a solid web coinciding with an interconnecting web of the palm section, intermediate finger back sections connecting the inner edges of the finger back sections and having a deep slit therein corresponding to and disposed behind the slit in the palm section, and a sewed seam securing the marginal edge of the palm finger portions to the adjacent edge of the composite fingers back section.

2. A baseball glove of the kind described in claim 1 in which the composite back has a hand hole formed therein, and the finger back sections and the intermediate finger back sections, all extend rearwardly to the margin of the hand hole. 1

In a baseball glove construction for protecting a players hand the combination of an outer casing having an integral palm section, a pair of spaced dual finger members extending from the palm section, a deep slit formed in the palm section between the members and extending inwardly to the crotch between the player fingers, said dual finger members each having a centrally disposed; shallow indentation in the outer marginal edge thereof, side extensions for the palm section covering the rear outer half of the end fingers, spaced finger back sections each joined along an adjacent edge to a side extension, and being of a width to extend transversely to the center of the next inner finger, said finger back sections each having an indentation in thefouter marginal edge disposed in registry with an indentation a Central'back section for covering the inner half of the inner fingers, and having a deep slit therein coinciding with the slit between the dual finger members, means for joining the longitudinal marginal edges of the central section to the adjacent edges of the finger back sections, and means for securing the marginal edge of the dual finger members to the outer marginal edges of the finger back sections and the central sec- BENJAMIN B.
