. Qlaims- ,zea -ss-zi My invention relates to paper holders and more I '4 particularly comprises a novel and useful dis} pensing mean for inserting, supporting and removing rolls of toilet paper from a toilet fixture.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a novel means facilitating the insertion in an r mova ails 9i f ee; a di pen i receptacle for roll material.
An d ti nal ebieet o t e invent is the provision of a means, as set forth above, which will prevent the user from injuring the fingers o fin e nails while inse t ng o d aw n a soil o ape from the recepta l of he devis ..A f rthe imp rtant obie t e t vention i the provision of means for facilitating the removal of a full roll of paper from its receptacle, when access i desired for the purpose of cleaning thereceptacle and the like.
A further object is the development of a device in accordance with each of the foregoing objects which shall be compact, simple, inexpensive and serviceable.
These and other important objects to become apparent as the following description unfolds, are attained by my invention, one embodiment of which has been set forth by way of example only, in the attached drawings, wherein;
Figure l is a front elevation of the invention as applied to a toilet paper dispenser;
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken substantially upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the other side of the receptacle of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view through the receptacle of Figure 1, showing the arrangement of my invention;
Figure 5 is a side elevational detail, depicting the operation of my invention; and,
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional detail upon the line 66 of Figure 5 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Reference is now made to the attached drawings, showing by way of example only, one embodiment of my invention, and wherein I0 designates a receptacle for dispensing roll paper, which in this instance may be a toilet paper holder. While the receptacle may be constructed of any desired material, I preferably form the same of ceramic, tile or aluminum to give a pleasing appearance. The receptacle, which may constitute a tile insert for a bathroom wall, is provided with side walls l2, l4 and a, curved end wall merging into a top and bottom wall in the customary manner, not shown.

s sesame spa s-bets tor a Q-sbae q .Qlempi s s1-....hlnsl. etssl see: erally at 36, said member beingspreferably 95}.- structed of resilient material as spring wire of a non-rust character, and including a bight 38 which may extend laterally through the walls l2, l4, with perpendicularly disposed parallel arms 40 and 42, disposable snugly in grooves 32, 34 respectively. The relative lengths, widths and disposition of these grooves is shown more clearly in Figures 2, 3 and 6.
The arm 42 is extended forwardly to provide a handle or finger grip 44 extending beyond the receptacle and is provided with a spring member 46, disposed for engagement with the top of the groove 34, to hold the clamp in position and to bias the arm 42 downwardly. Downwardly depending from the extremity of arm 40 is a pin 50 and similarly disposed on arm 42 is a pin 48, the pins being suitably positioned to engage over and retain the spindles 24 in the grooves 20, 22.
From the foregoing, the operation of the invention will now be apparent. The grip 44 is lifted against the pressure of spring 46, thus elevating the pins 48, 50, whereby a roll or the empty roll arbor may be withdrawn and a full roll inserted. When the grip 44 is released the spring 46 again biases the pins 48, 50 into the potion shown in Figures 2 and 3, locking the roll in dispensing position.
It will be noted that the releasing of a roll is eifected Without the necessity for inserting the fingers into the recess. The paper is held upon a plain roller without springs and is retained only by the pins 48, 50. The danger of breaking the wooden arbor by the forceful tearing of the cardboard roll therefrom is obviated by the invention. The device therefore greatly simplifies the removal and insertion of rolls of paper.
Although I have shown the device applied to a holder for toilet paper, it will be evident that it is adapted to other environments wherever a strip of material is dispensed from a roll and the 3 scope of my invention is to be limited only by the scope of the following claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A dispensing device for rolls comprising a wall receptacle, having a pair of side walls and an end wall, parallel horizontal grooves in said side walls, a paper roll arbor removably inserted in said grooves, and a one-piece, paper roll retaining means seated in said grooves, said retaining means including a roll retaining latch normally disposed in front of the spindle of said paper roll arbor, a handle on said latch and extending outside said receptacle, and means urging said handle and latch into engaging position with said paper roll arbor.
2. A dispensing device for rolls comprising a wall receptacle, having a pair of side walls and an end wall, parallel horizontal grooves in Said side walls, a paper roll arbor removably inserted in said grooves, and a one-piece, paper roll retaining means seated in said grooves, said retaining means including a roll retaining latch normally disposed in front of the spindle of said paper roll arbor, spring means carried by said retaining means and abutting an upper wall of said groove.
3. A dispensing device for rolls comprising a wall receptacle, having a pair of side walls and an end wall, parallel horizontal grooves in said side walls, a paper roll arbor removably inserted in said grooves, and a one-piece, paper roll retaining means seated in said grooves, wherein said retaining means comprises a U-shaped unitary member having a leg disposed in each of said grooves and having its bight portion adjacent said end wall.
4. A dispensing device for rolls comprising a wall receptacle, having a pair of side walls and an end wall, arallel horizontal grooves in said side walls, a paper roll arbor removably inserted in said grooves, and a one-piece, paper roll rctaining means seated in said grooves, wherein said retaining means comprises a U-shaped unitary member having a leg disposed in each of said grooves and having its bight portion adjacent said end wall, one leg-of said retaining means comprising a handle and latch for releasably securing said arbor and paper roll in dispensing position in said grooves.
5. A dispensing device for rolls comprising a wall receptacle, having a pair of side walls and an end wall, parallel horizontal grooves in said side walls, a paper roll arbor removably inserted in said grooves, and a one-piece, paper roll retaining means seated in said grooves, each of said grooves comprising a lower paper roll arbor portion of increased width and an upper, retainer receiving portion of lesser width.
