3 Claims. l
The present invention relates to footwear, particularly ladies shoes and slippers and has for its main object to provide a method and means for joining the shoe upper, platform and sole in the quickest possible way and simultaneously, thereby saving labor and materials.
To accomplish this, my method consists in that two complementary zipper strips of any suitable construction are stitched or otherwise permanently attached, one to and all around the shoe upper and its heel and the other to and all around the sole, then causing the interlocking of the Zipper teeth by the usual slide, then permanently xing the end portion of said zipper teeth to the shoe.
My invention will be readily understood by reierence to the accompanying drawing which oonstitutes part of this specication and in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts.
Fig. l is a side elevation of a ladies shoe constructed according to my invention,
Fig. 2 is a rear end elevation thereof,
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 3 3 of Fig. l and Fig. 4 is a somewhat enlarged elevation of a part of a zipper whose slide has been removed and whose complementary zipper elements or teeth are shown permanently fixed in interengaging position.
In the drawing, i@ denotes the shoe upper of a ladys shoe made of any shape and material, II denotes the shoe soie, l2 the heel and I3 the platform which as Usual may consist of layers of felt, cork or the like. Stitched to the bottom downwardly folded edges Ia of the shoe upper and of its heei portion is the cloth strip I4 carrying a row oi ordinary zipper elements or teeth I5 and stitched to the upwardly folded edges It2L of the outer leather covering i6 of the sole I I is the cloth strip Iiia carrying the complementary row of Zipper teeth itin. These two strips, i4, Ilia are arranged with their teeth or zipper elements I5, I 5a contiguous and parallel to one another and extend all around the circumference of the shoe. After effecting the engagement of the complementary zipper teeth l5, I5EL with one another by the usual manipulation of the Zipper slide (not shown) the latter may be removed and the end teeth or zipper elements i5, Ita are fixed in position by suitable means, such as staples I'I or the like.
A plate I3 of metal or other suitbale material may be used to shield the fixed ends of the Zipper strips, and may be fixed in position by nails i9 or the like.
The Zipper teeth may be advantageously made of shiny metal, so as to, at the same time, serve as an ornament.
It is obvious that other means may be used to permanently iix the interengaging Zipper teeth in locked position, and the attachment of the cloth strips It, Ita to the parts of the shoe for the purpose described may also be varied without departing from the principle of my invention. I, therefore, do not wish to destrict myself to the details described and shown.
What I claim is:
l. In shoe manufacturing, the method of permanently joining the shoe upper, platform and sole, consisting in attaching to and all around the bottom edges of the shoe upper and its heel portion one of the two complementary ordinary Zipper strips, and the other to, and all around the edges of the sole, effecting the interlocking 0f said complementary zipper strips by the Zipper slide removing said slide from the ends of the interlocked zipper strips, and permanently xing said ends of the Zipper strips to the shoe in locked position.
2. l'n a shoe, the combination with its shoe upper, platform and sole, of a zipper, one strip of which is permanently attached to and all around the bottom edge of the shoe upper and of its heel portion and the other of which is permanently attached to and all around the edge of the sole, a slide for interlocking of said Zipper strips with one another said slide being removed from said strips after they have been interlocked, and means for permanently fixing the ends of said zipper strips to the 'shoe in interlocked condition.
3. In a shoe, the combination with its shoe upper, platform and sole, of a Zipper, one strip of which is permanently attached to and all around the bottom edge of the shoe upper and of its heel portion and the other of which is permanently attached to and all around the edge of the sole, a slide for the interlocking of said zipper strip with one another, said slide being removed from the said zipper strips after they have been interlocked, means for permanently fixing the ends of the zipper strips to the shoe in interlocked position and a shield mounted over the Xed endsv The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
