Description

J. H. DU RALL PILL DoUsER Feb. 24, 1948.
Filed Aug. 24, 1945 INVENTQR. J 72 jf( .Da/@a ZZ ATTD R N EYS Patented Feb. 24, 1948 YJNITED STATES ATENT 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a device for administering medicines, either in liquid form or in pills, tablets or the like, and more particularly to a medicine douser.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein liquid can be drawn into the mouth of a person for f the assurance of the administering thereof, or a pill, tablet or the like, either small or large, can be drawn into the mouth and swallowed with ease and without discomfort or resistance by the person when taking the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision oi' a device of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel, in that the liquid will not be choked therein for free flow within the mouth of a person in the act of drinking from a container, especially when a pill, tablet or the like is being held thereby for the administering 0f the latter, or when the person is reclining or in an upright position during the use of the said device,
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same aords a drinking tube, as well as a pill, tablet or the like administering medium, the device being readily and conveniently handled for the purposes intended thereof, the pills, tablets or the like when within the device will not retard the ow of liquid when drawn therethrough and concurrently the said pill, tablet or the like will be lifted for its delivery into the mouth of a person with dispatch and swallowed with ease.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, strong, durable, light in weight, accommodating different sizes of pills, tablets or the like, for the administering thereof, convenient for service, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention, partly broken away, and in position to a liquid container, which is diagrammatically disclosed.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constituting the present invention, comprises a tube I0 having at one end a bowl body II, in this instance partially of substantially oval formation in cross-section, provided with a llared mouth rim I2 for fitting into the mouth of a person when using the device. This bowl at the point of merger with the tube is formed with radially disposed restricted portions or areas I3 constituting seats interiorly of such bowl Il for the resting of a pill, tablet or the like, not shown, to be administered to the person using the device. These portions or areas I3 prevent the pill, tablet, or the like, dropping into the tube I0 and the choking of liquid when being drawn through the latter under suction action while the mouth rim I2 is engaged in the mouth for the drawing of the liquid and tablet, pill or the like therein for the administering of the same to a person.
The portions or areas I3 actually provide slotted stop fins interiorly of the bowl I I for the purpose of withholding the tablet, pill or the like, either small or large, from falling within the tube Ill, and preventing free flow of liquid therethrough.
The tube I0 neXt to the bowl II is provided with a slightly curved portion I4', and the end of the said tube remote from the bowl is designed to be submerged into a liquid held within a container, such as a drinking glass or the like I 5, so that the liquid I6 within such can be drawn upwardly through the tube Ill for the administering of the said liquid, and ii" a pill, tablet or the like, is present in the bowl, it will ow with the liquid into the mouth of the user of the device with ease and dispatch through suction from the mouth whenthe mouth rim I 2 is engaged therein. This curved portion I4 sets the bowl II with respect to the tube Il) for the convenient use of the device by a person reclining and without interfering with the use when the person is erect.
What is claimed is:
A device of the class described, comprising a tube having a curved portion, a bowl body opening outwardly and merging with one end of the tube, said body being oval shaped longitudinally and oval shape in cross section and of a size adapted to be inserted in the mouth of a person, said body having indentations to provide restrcted areas forming interior seats Without nterfering with the flow of fluid through the tube and body when a solid object is within the body, anda. mouth ange rim at the outward opening of the body.
