WATCH MOUNTING Filed March 28, 1946 FIG. 4.v FIG 5 34 32 24 zgg l k agg 24 INVENTOR. 26 28, 28 26 KENNE TH M. WHEELOCK Patented June d, 1948 WATCH MGUNTKNG Kenneth M. Wheeloclr, Alexandria, Va.
Application March 28, 1946, Serial No. 657,831
(Cl. ZZd-A) 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a watch mounting which is especially designed to clamp, hold or retain a wrist watch on a bracelet s means of holding a Watch on the wrist without depending on the retaining pins incorporated the watch case, to form a continuity of the brace let strap or other means or to furnish strength for such holding purposes.
An object of the invention is to provide a mounting for holding watches constructed with non-removable pins on any design of bracelet without imposing strain on these pins or requiring removal of the pins for mounting the watches thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a mounting for holding wrist watches out of contact with the wrist thereby minimizing damage to the Watch from body perspiration.
A further object of the invention is to provide a mounting for a watch to be used with open ended or solid bracelets in such a manner as to permit the bracelets to be made of various different materials and decorative design.
A further object of the invention is to provide a mounting that will give a cushioning action to the watch to assist in preventing damage to the watch in the event the watch is struck in any manner.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line -l l of Figure 1 and Figure 5 is a modified form of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the reference numeral iii designates the mounting for a wrist watch the basic part of which consists of a thin strip of formable metal 52 or other suitable material having the base it and the laterally extending arm portions it which are bent upwardly at their extreme ends at 18 and then rolled upon theirselves at 2& to form the hook shaped portions 22 which are bent toward each other and are spaced at the bottom edge thereof from the upwardly bent ends of the arms IS.
The base Hi is provided at its outer edges with the depending portions 2d which are bent inwardly at 26 to form clamping jaws 28 for attachment of the base to a strap or similar wrist encircling means 3i).
At the transverse medial line of the base hi struck out ears 32 are provided which are adapted to clamp and retain there between the elongated spring metal plate 8% which retained at its cenattached to the ban as described or by rivets or other means will b mea of the hook portions 22 eng e over the pins 36 oi a wrist watch 38 shown in dotted lines in the drawing and the back of the watch case will engage the strip 3 which places a tension on the watch thus retaining the pins in the hook portions.
Thus a mounting has been provided that will fulfill the objects of the invention and so mount the watch that it is firmly retained in the hook portions free from shock and body perspiration, and the unique structure of the mounting leaves more room on the bracelet for decorative designs.
Should the watch be provided with only one center attaching means the hook portion 22 is slotted at 36 as shown in Figure 5 to engage the attaching means, this would be used for ladies Watches.
It is believed that the construction and manner of mounting the watch on the strap will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the form, shape or proportions of the various parts may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A mounting for a Watch having means thereon to connect a wrist encircling means thereto comprising a base plate, laterally extending arms on said plate, hook portions formed at the end of said arms, said hook portions adapted to engage the connecting means on said watch, a spring metal plate adapted to bear against the rear of the watch and means for attaching said last named plate at the medial line of said base plate.
2. The invention as in claim 1 wherein said base plate is provided with means for attaching said base to a wrist encircling means.
EKENNETH Iii. WHEELOCK.
