S. WECHSLER DISPLAY CARD FOLDER AND SAMPLE KIT Filed NOV. 14, 1947 v INVENTOR Samuel WEcks/er ATTORNEY J 4 20 AW 2 Patented Mar. 1, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DISPLAY CARD FOLDER AND SAMPLE KIT Samuel Wechsler, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application November 14, 1947, Serial No. 790,251
3 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a display container for merchandise.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a container with a series of normally open pockets in which articles to be sold may be displayed and from which they may be easily withdrawn, but will not drop out of their pockets due to safety provisions which do not interfere with the full visibility of the articles displayed.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a container with a central section and two wing sections, which fold over and against the central section, the central section and the inner sides of the wing sections being provided with numerous similar pockets in which merchandise is placed and displayed. A transparent retainer is disposed across the pockets to prevent accidental displacement of the merchandise from the pockets and to increase the diificulty of Withdrawal of the same by a customer, so that the supervision of a clerk is made necessary.
A further object of the invention is to provide a display card or container with a. series of pockets for holding articles for display to possible customers, with flexible retaining strips of transparent plastic material through which the articles may be fully visible and which provide a large intermediate withdrawal space between the adjacent strips through which a clerk or other authorized person may manually withdraw any article protected by the transparent strips.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the improved display container card or holder, showing the wings disposed in self supporting angular rela tion to the central section.
Fig. 2 is a front view, showing a number of articles disposed in the pockets of the card or container.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig, 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, is designates the central section of the display card and container having a left wing section II hinged thereto by the flexible connecting strip I 2 and a right wing section l3 hinged thereto by the flexible connecting strip M.
The central section II! is shown to have two compartment.
vertical tiers or rows of article container sockets or compartments [5 and I6, each row including individual sockets H which are shown to be of general rectangular shape and disposed at an incline with reference to the vertical plane of the section ID. The sockets or compartments I l of the vertical row or tier l5 are disposed at a different inclination to the sockets H of the tier or row l6, so as to present a decorative effect to the observer.
The wing section II is provided with a single vertical row or tier l8 of individual sockets H and the wing i3 is provided with a single row IQ of sockets or compartments ll All of the sockets or compartments are of the same size and general shape, and the compartments or sockets i'l of the left wing l l are disposed at a difierent inclination than the sockets or compartments of the row l5, and the sockets or compartments of the row l9 are disposed at a different inclination than those of the row l6.
Each vertical row of sockets or compartments is equipped with two parallel guard strips 20 and 21 of transparent plastic material which are located near the outer ends of the inclined sockets or compartments, but inwardly of the outer ends of these sockets or compartments. The sockets or compartments thus are provided with unobstructed outer end portions 22 and 23. The inner vertical edges of the transparent guard strips 20 and 2! are spaced apart to provide a relatively long intermediate opening 24 between the adjacent strips, which is large enough to permit of the withdrawal of an article in any The plastic guard strips do not interfere with the full visibility of any article disposed in any compartment.
The left and right wings are about one half the horizontal width of the central section, so that the two side wings may fold flat on the central section.
Each section includes a back sheet or cardboard 25 or other suitable material, an intermediate sheet of material or cardboard 26 which is cut out to provide the article sockets or compartments, and a facing sheet 21, thinner than the intermediate sheet 26, but which is also cut out to provide openings ll which mate with the cut out openings of the intermediate strip. The back sheet or cardboard 25 closes the rear sides of all of the compartments or article sockets. Each of the guard strips is secured between the facing sheet 21 and the intermediate strip '26, and in order to maintain the guide strips under tension, the opposite ends of the guide strips are 3 formed into L- shaped anchoring ends 28 and 29 which are extended through receiving slots 30 formed in the intermediate sheet 26, in the manner shown in Fig. 3, so that terminals of each guide strip will be secured between the confronting sides of the back sheet 25 and the intermediate sheet 26.
The depth of the socket or compartment required for any article to be displayed is controlled by the thickness of the intermediate sheet 26, and the width and length of the socket are, of course, determined by the width and length of the article to be displayed.
Should an attempt be made to pick "an article out of the container and card, the guard strips will increase the diihculty of removing it, and
thus act to prevent theft by persons intent-on quick removal. But a clerk or other person authorized to effect removal may easily remove the article sought to be withdrawn by sliding it in its compartment and then pulling it-out of the delivery opening 24'between the guard strips.
Should the display card and container fall from a counter or shelf, noneof the'enclosed articles will drop from its'socket orcompartment because of the effective restraining action of the guard strips.
Should a clerk apply laterallpressure to the guard strips, they will not slide longitudinally because of the anchored L-shaped ends thereof.
The improved display card and container are especially adapted for the display and sale of watch straps, but maybe adapted and used for any other kind of merchandise.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I'do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A display card comprising a back sheet, an intermediate sheet having cutout openings therein forming article holding compartments, a facingsheet having similar cutout openings mating those of the intermediate strip, the openings being. disposed in a row of compartments parallel to eachother, and transparent guard strips crossingthe compartmentsand having L-shaped anchor ends secured between the intermediate sheet and the back sheet, the body of each guard strip extending between the facing sheet and the intermediate sheet.
2. A display card comprising a central section and side wing sections hinged thereto to fold on and against the central section, the central section having a row of article holding compartments and the side wing sections having a row of article holding compartments, each. section having a back sheet, an intermediate and a facing sheet attached to the back sheet, the intermediate sheet having cutout openings forming the article compartments and the facing sheet having matching openings therefor, and a pair of transparent plastic guard strips disposed across the compartments of each row and located inwardly of the ends of the compartments and spaced apart to provide a withdrawal space for each compartment.
3. A display card comprising a central section and side wing sections hinged thereto to fold on and against the central section, the central section having a row of article holding compart* ments and the'side wing sections having a row of article holding compartments, each-section having a back sheet, an intermediate and a facing sheet attached to the'back sheet, the intermediate sheet having cutout openings forming the article compartments and the facing sheet having SAMUEL WECHSLERL REFERENCES CITED The following referencesare-of record in'the file of this patent:
