Description

March 29, 1949. P. K. MORGAN 2,455,911
I WATERPROOF SHOE PROTECTQR WITH SEVERABLE SECTIONS Filed Dec. 21, 1945' INVENTOR pau/ K Mokgao ATTO R N Y5 Patented Mar. 29, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WATERPROOF SHOE PROTECTOR WITH SEVERABLE SECTIONS Paul K. Morgan, Ridgeley, W. Va.
Application December 21, 1945, Serial No. 636,419
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to improvements in protectors for preventing soiling or damage to stockings, shoes, etc.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of an all-purpose protector of a relatively cheap construction designed to protect ladies fine hosiery; the same being adjustable in nature to suit the height to which the hosiery is to be protected and so arranged that it can be used directly upon the foot of the wearer, over the shoe, or between the shoe and outer protecting overshoes such as rubbers, galoshes, etc.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved protector.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view taken through a ladys overshoe showing the improved protector upon the foot of the wearer over the slipper and between the latter and the inside of the overshoe.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken through the protector showing the nature of the same.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is ShOWn only a preferred embodiment of the invention, the letter A may generally designate the improved protector. It may be made of tissue paper, fabric, rubber, plastic or cellulose materials or any artificial composition desired. Preferably the same includes a body portion [9 of soft texture formed in the shape of a boot having a layer of waterproofing material ll externally thereon. The waterproofing material could be impregnated in the body, but preferably the body Ill at its inner surface is left undisturbed so that its soft texture will aid in Protecting the wearers hosiery.
The improved protector has a novel form in that the same includes a closed foot portion l4 forward of the heel; the heel in the protector being removed as shown at I5 from rearwardly of the ball of the normal foot of the wearer to a point at above the bulge of the heel of the wearer or the bulge of the rear portion 2| of a shoe or slipper worn by the wearer. Therefrom the protector A is loosely fashioned in shape at 22 and at the top portion 23 thereof the same has tear lines 25 in the nature of perforations along which the top 23 may be severed to the desired height.
In use the wearer may slip the heelless protecting boot directly upon the foot beneath the slipper shown at B, or as will usually be the case the protector is fitted over the slipper so that the slipper heel, shown at in Figure 2 of the drawing, will not interfere with the protector. The
French heel shown on the slipper emphasizes the fact that the device is of an all-purpose nature insofar as its fit upon various types of heels is concerned. Normally the device will be used as shown in Figure 2 over the slipper with the top portion extending upwardly to the desired height on the leg of the wearer to a point just above the top margin of the overshoe C. Of course the tear lines 25 will assist in determining the height to which the wearer desires the protector to extend. If desired, it may extend entirely up the leg to the knee.
Various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A boot-like protector for wearing over the foot of a wearer for the protection of hosiery including a foot portion and a leg portion having an upper part thereof divided into a plurality of sections separated by weakened horizontal tear lines, said protector being constructed of flexible absorbent material having an outer water-proofed coating extending up to and including said plurality of sections.
2. A protector for stockings of a nature to be worn on the foot of a wearer over the slipper or shoe and beneath an overshoe including a foot portion and a leg portion, the latter being fashioned to the shape of a wearers leg adjacent to and above the ankle and including a plurality of ring-like sections connected to each other by readily severable weakened tear lines, said leg portion being of soft-textured material and provided with a coating of substantially waterproof material over one of its surfaces, including one of the surfaces of each of said ring-like sections and the surface between said tear lines.
