WILLIAM T. DOREMUS, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
PILLOW AND BOLSTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,892, dated October 4, 1881.
Application filed August 23, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. DOREMUS, of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pillows and Bolsters, of which the following is a specification. n
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,in
which similar letters of reference indicate cor-' responding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective View of my -improvement. Fig. 2'is a sectional end eleva tion of the same.
7 The object of this invention is to prevent the.
stuffing of pillows and bolsters from being crowded out of place by pressure applied to parts of the said pillows and bolsters.
The invention consists in a pillow or bolster formed of a central roll surrounded by two or more parallel rolls connected with the said cenis kept frombeing pressed out of place by use, as will be hereinafter fully described.
The pillow or bolster is formed of a central roll or core, A, surrounded by two or more parallel rolls, B, connected together along their parallel sides.
The pillow-cover can be formed of a continuous piece of ticking sewed together to form the "arious compartments, as shown in the upper part of Fig. 2, the connection between the central roll and each surrounding roll being a single seam; or each surrounding roll can be connected with the central roll by two seams at a greater or less distance apart, as shown in the lower part of Fig. 2. In the latter case there Inustbe as'man y pieces of tickingused as there arerollsin thepillow, orth etickingbetween the central roll and the outer or surrounding rolls must be made of two thicknesses. The central roll, A, can be stufl'ed with an inferior ma- In using the pillow it can be adjusted for the head to rest upon one of the surrounding 'rollsB,' or in the space between two rolls, B.
The ends of the central roll, A, are closed by circular or polygonal pieces of ticking sewed 1 to the edges of the ticking that forms the'body ofthe said roll. The ends of the surrounding rolls B can be closed by sewing the edges of the ticking together in a seam tangential or radial to the central roll, A. Thelatter construction I prefer as making the surrounding rolls more readily adjustable; or the ends of the surrounding rolls B can be closed with separate pieces of ticking in the same manner as the ends of the central roll, A. The latter construction has the advantage of giving the pillow a uniform thickness from end to end.
Havingthus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Apillow or bolster made, substantially as herein shown and described, of a central roll surrounded by two or more parallel rolls connected with the said central roll along its sides, as set forth.
2. In a pillow or bolster, the combination, with the central roll, A, of two or more parallel surrounding rolls B, connected along their inner sides with the said central roll, substantially as herein shown and described,
whereby the stuffingiskeptfroni being pressed out of place by use, asset forth.
WILLIAM T. DOREMUS.
