Description

Patented Jan. 31, 1950 STATES PATENT OFFICE STACKED JAR CONTAINER WITH SELF- LOCKIN G TOP AND BOTTOM 1 Claim.
This invention relates to jar containers for creams, paste, powder and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide jar containers for creams and the like which when stacked one upon the other will be self looked at the top and bottom against lateral displacement from the stack.
It is another object of the invention to provide a jar container which is of such shape that it may contain a cover which can fit within the concave bottom of a jar container stacked upon the same and radially removed from the external periphery of the same and further to provide a jar with a space therein which is shallow and of cornerless pit construction.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a jar container which can be stacked on the counters and shelves of display places without consuming a great amount of space and which particularly when made of different colors will have a pleasing appearance.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front perspective view looking down upon the top and one side of a stack of these jar containers,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken diametrically through one container withits cover in place thereon,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken through a stack of two containers with the bottom of the uppermost one fitted upon th top and over the cover of the lowermost one, the section being taken through the diameter of the containers,
Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective view of one single container looking down upon the top and upon the side of the same.
Referring now to the figures, l represents the main cylindrical body of the container in which there is disposed centrally of the same a shallow, cornerless pit or cavity II in which the creams or the like are disposed. By having the pit shallow cornerless there is little waste made of the creams as there are no corners into which the same can be confined and further greater access is had to the creams so that a cramping of the fingers to obtain the same is unnecessary. The main body ll] has a threaded flange or neck 12 extending vertically upwardly from a top surface I3 of the body 10. This flange provides the rim for the pit H and serves as the means by which a cover or lid 14 can be attached to the main body I I]. This cover I I has a slight convex exterior l and its peripheral portion 16 has a flat annular surface adapted to lie flush upon the surface it of the main body l0, radially inwardly of an annular accumulation of corrugations I1 projecting above the surface l3 and exteriorly of the cover. These corrugations give a pleasing appearance to the container and at the same time when interlocked or in mesh with corrugations I8 formed on the bottom of the main body l0, serve to prevent the lateral displacement of one jar container from the other when stacked one upon the other as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. These corrugations are interlocked with one another automatically and in a tongue and groove fashion whereby one container is held to the other to facilitate unscrewing th cover.
Also on the bottom of the body ill and radially inwardly thereof, there is provided a depression or cavity 9 for receiving the cover 14 as the containers are stacked.
Having now described my invention, I claim:
In a nested container combination, the combination which comprises a fiat horizontally disposed cylindrical container body having centrally disposed concave cavities in the upper and lower surfaces with the cavity in the lower surface larger than the product carrying cavity in the upper surface whereby the cover of a similar container is received in the said larger cavity of the lower surface with one container positioned upon another, said cylindrical body having an upwardly extended threaded neck positioned around the product carrying cavity in the upper surface, and a fiat cover with an arcuate upper surface threaded on said neck, the outside diameter of said cover being less than the inside diameter of the cavity in the lower surface of the body whereby the cover is nested in the cavity of a superimposed body, and the upper and lower surfaces of said cylindrical body being provided with radially disposed corrugations whereby corrugations of one cylindrical body mesh with 001'- rugations of another and prevent one body turning upon another thereby facilitating unscrewing the covers from the said cylindrical bodies.
