ApplicatiomNovembei-c27, 1946, SerialiNo'. 712,571v
faces, and more; particularly to adevice: in which steam is appliedtothe-paper.
The primary- .feature; of; thisinvention is. to.
provide I a steaming. pan: supported on a. portable standard. saidwpanbeing. adjustable to. a ceiling asthe standard is raisedor. lowered.
Another =feature of. this invention is. to: providea device-of this-character having an outletmeans.
for the steaming pan whereby the steam condensing in: said pan. is. drained into a bucket or the like, thereby eliminating the hazard to the o-per- 'ator of being injured by. hotwater; from the pan.
A further feature of this invention is to provide a device of this character that is strong and durable in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, efficient and reliable in, operation, relatively. inexpensive to manufacture and otherwiseqwell adapted for the purposesior which. the same is intended.
Other. objects and advantages reside inth'e detailsofconstruction and'operationas more fully hereinafter described" and claimed; reference. being. had. to the accompanying drawingsxfiorming part hereof ,.wherein like referencenumeralsrefer to like parts throughout, and'in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invention,
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectiona1 view taken on line 44 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the steaming pan, and
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 represents the base, preferably of wood, having removable casters 6 at the lower corners thereof.
Centrally located on the upper face of lease 5 and suitably secured to said lease is a flanged socket Ba which is adapted to receive the lower end of a vertical hollow standard 1.
The upper hook ends 8a of a pluralit of guy wires 8 are adapted to engage openings 9 in the upper end of standard 1. The lower ends of said wires 8 are also provided with hooks l0 which are adapted to engage eyes Illa extending upwardly from the corners of base 5.
The said wires 8 are provided with conventional turn'buckles H which are adjustable to tighten said wires, thereby supporting standard I to base 5.
The lower end'oia vertically adjustable, inter.- mediate standard: section [2 is telescoped to fit in standard '7: for vertical adjustment in said standard, 1 by a set-screw i3v conventionally carried :by the upper end ofzstandard 1.
The upper end 0:1": the. intermediate section l2- is slidable vertically in a=pan supporting hollow standard M which. is essentially the upper end: of standard I.
The-upper end of standard M is' adapted toifit into aflanged socket I iaextending downwardly from. the lowerinclinedbottom L511; of a steam-- ingpan 125,. said socket. l la being suitably secured to the pan 15:
A drain opening hSiisprovidedinthe'lower end ita of the bottom of pan l5, saidropening-adapted toreceive the upper. endofi a. downwardly-extending' flexible; tubing: ll thalowerend: of saidv tub-- ing being placed: inzaxbucket'. or the like Ila.
An inlet: boss 58- extends; downwardly; from theupper end Min. of: the inclined bottom of pan; I5 said: boss adapted to. receive; theiupper end of; a tubing [9, the lower end of said tubing beingsuitably secured to a steam supply pipe (not. shown).
Steam entering panlr5is ioroedby pressure out of the perforations- 20 in th upper horizontal? face 15b: of. said pan, and: any: condensation. in: saidpan is. drained to outlet opening I6 in' thebottom of pan l5 and-hencethrougli-tubing I 1 to the bucket lla.
Within the pan supporting standard [4 is a coil spring 2i, the upper end of said spring resting against a plate 22 suitably secured in said standard It, and the lower end of said spring bears against the upper end of the intermediate section l2, thereby holding standard is and pan l5 in a normally elevated position.
A vertical slot 23 is provided in the lower end of the pan supporting standard Ed, said slot slidably receiving an outwardly extending lug 24 at the upper end of the intermediate section E2 to prevent rotation of standard M.
The upper ends of a pair of downwardly extending metal arms 25 are suitably secured on opposite sides of the lower end of standard M at 25a.
The lower ends of said arms 25 are secured by rivets or the like 25b to the sides of a substantially U-shaped yoke 26 extending outwardly from one end of a conventional handle 27.
Extending between the outer ends of yoke 25 is a cross-bar 28 and extending inwardly from the center of said bar 28 is a split collar 29 which is adapted to slidably encircle the intermediate section.
The shorter arm Me of a substantially U- shaped inverted catch 3| is pivotally connected by a rivet or the like 33a to the opposite side of yoke 26, said arm 33 extending downwardl from yoke 26 and is also pivotally connected by a rivet 3 or the like 34 to the outer end of a lever connecting rod 35.
Said lever connecting rod 35 is offset inwardly at 36 so that the opposite end of rod 35 extends longitudinally under the handle 21.
A bellcrank lever arm 39 is pivotally connected at 39a to said lower end 31 of ring 38, and the free end of connecting rod 35 is pivotally connected at 40 to said lever arm 39.
In order to lower the pan supporting standard I4, the handle 21 is gripped and pulled downwardly causing the pan supporting standard and pan l5 to also be pulled downwardly, the catch 3| sliding downwardly under a dog 4| carried by the section l2 to lock the pan in its lower position by a coil spring 40a connecting the lower end 33 of the catch with the yoke 26.
The pan supporting standard I4 and steaming pan thus being held in a lowered position, the entire device may then be moved to a desired position. Then the lever arm 39 is gripped, disengaging the upper end of catch 3| from dog 4| and the supporting standard and steaming pan is projected upwardly due to the tension in spring 22.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention that the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A pan support for Wallpaper removing devices comprising a lower standard, a movable base supporting said lower standard, an upper standard supporting a steaming pan, an intermediate section workable in said lower standard and upper standard, a spring within the upper standard, the lower end of said spring bearing against the upper end of the intermediate section, said spring adapted to hold the upper standard in a raised position, a handle for lowering the upper standard, and a catch carried by the handle and engaged under a part of the intermediate section for securing the pan in a lowered position.
2. A pan support for wallpaper removing devices comprising a lower standard, a movable base supporting said lower standard, an upper standard supporting a steaming pan, an intermediate section workable in said lower standard and upper standard, a spring within the upper standard, the lower end of said spring bearing against the upper end of the intermediate section, said spring adapted to hold the upper standard in a raised position, a yoke slidably carried by the intermediate section, an arm connecting the yoke to the upper standard, a handle on the yoke for lowering the upper standard and pan, a substantially inverted U-shaped catch pivotally carried by the yoke, a lug projecting laterally from the upper standard engageable by the catch to secure the upper standard in a lowered position, and releasing means for the catch carried by the handle.
