Description

BLANKET Filed March 7, 1945 Patented Feb. 14, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to improvements in blankets, or sleeping covering, and one of the objects of the same is to provide an improved blanket which comprises two pieces, adapted to be readily connected together along one edge, the combined sections being of a width that the free edges thereof may be tucked under the mattress. At the same time, the sections may be separated along the united edges, thereby permitting each section to be thrown back out of the way when desired, without pulling them from under the mattress or removing them from the bed.
A further object is to provide an improved blanket of this character, which is provided with tie tapes secured thereto, intermediate the lateral edges of the sections, which tapes are adapted to be tied around a portion of the frame of the springs, or a part of the bed, so that when the blanket is in use, it cannot be pulled out and will not slip off the bed, thereby insuring that the sleeper will not become uncovered by a change of position in the bed.
To the attainment of these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects, the invention consists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and shown in the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, in which Fig. 1 is a view, in section, of a bed and blanket, showing the manner of applying the blanket when in use.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blanket, showing one of the ends of the sections thereof separated.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of the blanket.
The blanket, in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2, consists, essentially, of two sections 10), preferably of uniform size and shape, and constructed of any suitable material. The two sections are adapted to be separately secured together along the adjacent sides II, in any suitable manner, here shown as separable fastening means, such as buttons 13 and button holes ii, any number of which may be provided.
Secured to each of the sections, intermediate their lateral edges and spaced a substantial distance from the outer edges, and also on top of the sections, are suitable anchoring means or tie tapes ill, by means of which the blanket may be secured or anchored to a portion of the bed, such as the rails I6, so that the blanket will be maintained in proper place upon the mattress 1 Claim. (Cl. 334) l1, and will be prevented from pulling out, slipping or falling 01f the bed.
The tie tapes are so secured to the blanket as to hold the same in a position which will be comfortable to the occupant of the bed, and to permit of freedom of movement, such as turning or sitting up in the bed.
By providing the blanket in sections, with the separable fastening means l3-I4, the sections may be readily separated and thrown back out of the way, when access to the occupant may be desired for any purpose, without the necessity of untying the tapes, or pulling out or withdrawing the sides of the blanket from under the mattress.
When desired, the sections may again be brought together, and the free edges thereof united through the medium of the fastening means l3l4.
When not in use, and, if desired, the sections may be separated and folded back upon the bed.
With this improved constuction, and when desired, the sections may be separated and each section used as a single blanket.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, I
the blanket is formed of two main sections detachably united along one edge by separable fastening means, here shown as buttons l8 and button holes [9, and each main section in turn comprises smaller sections 20, which latter are separably connected together along a line 2| which is transverse to the separation line 22 of the main sections. These smaller sections are respectively separably secured together by means of separable fastening means, such as buttons and button holes 23-24.
Fastening or anchoring tapes 25, any number of which may be provided, are secured to the respective sections for fastening the blanket in position on the bed, in a manner similar to that employed with the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
While the preferred forms of the invention have been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within the scope of the claim, without departing from the spirit of this invention.
What is claimed as new is:
A sleeping blanket comprising two sheet like sections entirely separated from each other, means separably securing adjacent edges of said sections together in overlapping relation, anchoring tapes secured to each of the sections in spaced relation throughout the length of the sections,
and spaced a substantial distance from the free lateral edges of the respective sections and adapted to be tied to a portion of the bed, the free portions of the respective blanket sections beyond the said anchoring means, being adapted 5' to be tucked under the mattress, the entire remaining portion of each section, when in use, being disposed above the person, each of said sections, while thus anchored and tucked under the mattress, being adapted to be hung over 10 the respective adjacent sides of a bed, when the proximate edges of the sections are unfastened and separated, each of the sections, when separated, being adapted to be separately and independently removed, while the other section;
remains secured to the bed, and also adapted to be employed as separate blanket covers 'orunits.
