Description
May 2, 1950 J. B. FREEsToNE GREASE DISPENSER Filed Oct. l1, 1946 ZITI Fig. 3.4
INVENTOR. Joseph Blaine Freesorle ATTE! RN EYB Patented May 2, 1950 UNITED STATES .PATENT OFFICE GREASE DISPENSER Joseph Blaine Freestone, Mesa, Ariz.
Application October 1l, 1946, Serial No. 702,695
(Cl. 20S-56) 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for dispensing grease, and more particularly to the provision of a container for grease which can be conveniently attached to small pressure grease guns.
The usual small pressure grease gun includes a grease container which can be relled only with considerable inconvenience and mess.
It isI an object of this invention to provide a grease container which can be readily adapted for use on grease guns, the container being made out of a disposable material such as cardboard, plastic, tin.
A further object is to provide a container of disposable material which can be lilled with grease for use with small pressure grease guns, the container being thrown away when the grease contained therein has been used.
A further object is to provide an adapter for use on a grease container to enable the container to be used on different sizes of grease guns.
These and other objectsare attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of a container embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of an adapter which can be used with the container.
Fig. 4 is a sectional View showing the container attached to a grease gun.
Referring to the drawings, the container is shown to comprise a casing l having a cap 2 which is attached to the casing by pins 3 in a bayonet slot in the cap 2, the slot being shown at 20 in Fig. 2. The cap 2 keeps the grease clean.
The end of the container opposite the cap 2 is provided with a hole 6 for the entrance of air to allow a disc providing a follower l to slide down the casing as the grease is used. The disc 4 keeps grease from going down into the air hole 6, and also keeps air holes from getting into the grease. The disc 4 is provided with a flange 5 which keeps the disc always in proper position in the casing l.
In Fig. 3 is shown an adapter to enable the container to be used on different grease guns. The adapter has a ring 1 connected to a threaded reduced portion 8 for attachment to a grease gun. The ring l has a bayonet slot 9 which cooperates with the pins 3 to attach the adapter to the container.
In Fig. 4 the adapter is shown attached to a container having an opening I positioned off center of the container so that a larger amount of grease may be sold without interfering with the operation of the handle which operates the pressure pump of the grease gun.
From the above description it will be seen that there has been provided a container into which grease may be put up free of air holes, and when the grease is used, another container of grease can be readily fitted in place on a grease gun without inconvenience and mess of refilling the usual barrel of a grease gun.
The above description is to be considered as illustrative and not limitative of the invention of which modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
The invention having been described, what is claimed is:
1. In a grease container for grease guns and the like, the combination, which comprises, a tubular casing with a relatively small air inlet opening in one end and a discharge opening in the other and having oppositely disposed projections on the outer surface for a bayonet joint spaced from the discharge end a cap providing a closure for the discharge end of the casing, a flanged disc providing a follower in said casing whereby air enters the casing through the air inlet and permits the disk to follow the grease as it is used, and an adapter having an annular ange with bayonet slots therein to receive the projections of the casing positioned on the discharge end of the casing when the cap is removed and Said adapter having a threaded nipple whereby the adapter may be inserted in a grease gun tting extending from the end thereof.
2. In a grease container for grease guns and the like, the combination, which comprises, a tubular casing with a closed end having a relatively small air inlet opening therein and having a discharge opening in the opposite end with projections for a bayonet joint around the discharge opening, a flanged disc forming a piston in said casing, and an adapter having an annular flange with bayonet slots therein to receive the projections of the casing positioned on the discharge end of the casing and having a threaded nipple for a grease gun, said discharge opening and adapter nipple positioned adjacent one side of the casing.
3. A grease container as described in claim` 1, wherein the tubular casing is formed of stii paper or the like thereby providing a cartridge that is discarded after use.
