1 Claim.
This invention relates to a garment for women and has for its main object to provide a one-piece garment which serves the purpose of two pieces of underwear as a combination brassiere and underskirt. Also it may be used for other purposes such as tennis dress, sun suit, beach dress, bathing suit, garden dress, and adjustable maternity dress. Also it is especially suited for stout women who have difficulty in hooking up backfastened garments.
Other advantages will appear from the description and drawings.
The garment in its regular form is made complete without any hooks, eyes, buckles, or similar attachments. However, such attachments may be used if desired without departing from the structure of the garment.
By referring to the drawings, part of this application, it will be observed that Fig. 1 is a front view of the garment in place for use on a woman; Fig. 2 is a back view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a view of the left side of the garment; Fig. i is a view of the right side of the garment; Fig. 5 is a view of the garment spread out; Fig. 6 is a view of how parts may be cut from a piece of material; Figs. '7 to 17 inclusive show the shapes of the parts for the making of the complete garment.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Again referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the garment comprises center bodice portion 5 attached to side parts i. Also the breast cups 2 are attached to the center portion l and are supported by their top edges 3 being attached to the shoulder straps it. The cups are reenforced by inner parts 6 and i that form supporting linings for the breast cups 2. The back parts 5 of the bodice are provided with narrow ends it simulating ribbons for tying to attached tabs it on the front. The skirt is made up with parts 8, 9 and it with the back part It lapping over i i the other back part b. In the side there is a slot i5 adapted for the small end ll of the right side to pass through so as to be tied to the tab it on the left front of the wearer. The various parts are sewed together to form the garment as shown in Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive.
From the foregoing it will appear that the garment combines a brassiere and skirt that flares at its bottom to give freedom of action. The open panels which double across at the back allow extra movement with safety.
The brassire portion which is attached to the skirt is designed to support the bust firmly in an upright, yet comfortable, position. This is mainly accomplished by means of the inner ring made of parts 6 and 7 that fits around each breast, preventing any discomfort caused by chafing or galling, which so often occurs under large or low busts. The breasts fit snugly in the outer cups or confiners.
The side pieces of the bodice are cut to form a low back and are brought from the side seams, overlapping each other across the back. The end of the underneath lap, which is brought from the right side of the wearer, is run through a small slot at the left side seam and is tied to a small tab which is attached to the front of the bodice slightly to left of center. The end of the over-lapping piece, which is brought from the left side of the wearer, is brought around the body and tied to a small tab at the front of the bodice slightly right of center. The shoulder bands are cut to fit comfortably to the back and shoulders and to remain in place.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, but reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as I remain within the spirit and scope of the following claim.
Having described my invention I claim:
In a cloth garment for the body of a woman comprising, a brassiere, separate pieces of cloth as reinforcing elements attached on the inside of the outer covering of the breast covering portions of the brassiere, said reinforcing pieces defining cup formations and adapted to hold the breasts of a woman in more and confined and attractive condition, said garment having a center bodice portion being attached intermediate the said brassiere and a paneled skirt, said bodice having overlapping back portions terminating in narrow ends, each of which is extended to the front of the bodice and adjustably secured underneath each cup formation of the brassire.
