DOUBLE CLASP-HOOK FOR WATCH-CHAINS, &c.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,082, dated August 9', 1859.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MORRIS PoLLAK, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Double Clasp -Hooks for Vatch or Vest Chains; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and object of the said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein- Figure l, represents my said double clasp hook as open and receiving the ring of a watch or other article, and Fig. 2, is a section of my said clasp.

In watch or vest chains it is usual to connect a swivel or hook between the end of the chain and the watch, the same generally being permanently connected to the chain and removable from the ring or shank of the watch. This attachment is costly and liable to become injured and worn. Clasp hooks have been used for this and other purposes in which a spring mouth is formed to receive the watch ring or shank.

The nature of my said invention therefore does not consist in a clasp hook or a swivel in itself, but in a peculiar construction of double clasp hook that becomes an independent article and is' used to connect the ring of the watch with the ring or eye on the guard or vest chain, or other article; said hooks being so constructed that the spring mouths are simultaneously opened, so that the operator is facilitated, for he can open one mouth and insert the ring into the other mouth, thus obviating a difficulty heretofore experienced in o-pening the mouths of single clasp hooks into which the ring is tobe inserted.

In the drawing a, is a piece of metal in an S form of any suitable size, that shown being about twice the length required for a clasp to a vest or guard chain.

Z), b, are metallic disks on a center' pin c, that passes through the middle part of the S shaped piece.

(l, (l, are clasp-jaws soldered onto or otherwise attached to the disks b, It will now be apparent that these clasp jaws turning with the disks b, Z2, on the center pin c, simultaneously open or close the mouths formed at the ends of the S shaped piece a.

c, is a spring tending to keep these jaws d, cl, against the beveled ends of the piece a..

represents a ring that is being inserted into this clasp hook, and the operator opens one jaw by pressure with his nail or finger, opening the other so as to insert the ring or other article.

This double clasp hook it will be seen has peculiar advantages for watch or vest chains because it can be attached or detached from either the chain or watch or both, allowing for its application to different watches or chains.

I do not claim a clasp hook with a spring mouth but What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The S shape or double clasp hook, formed by the disks b, I), and clasp jaws d, d, on the center pin c, that passes through the middle of the bent piece a, substantially as set forth.
