A further object of the invention resides in the provision of means affording a convenient protection and safeguard against loss of articles to which. the aforesaiddevice is joined when in use, and of further means contributing to a structure of pleasing shape and design, which forms a bracelet-like ornament on the arm of the wearer when the device is not in use.

Stillflanother object of the invention is to provide means permitting adjustment "of sizeetc. of the device to the shape of the article to which it is to be connected and to the'arm of the person by whom the device is used.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more fully described and the combination and arrangement of parts will be shown in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims which form part of the specification.

Fig. 1 is a front elevation view of the safety device made in accordance with this invention and shown in operative position.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is disclosed in Fig. 1 a safety device [0 made from an elastic strip of material, which is relatively flat in cross section. It is preferred to employ a soft rubber core with fabric covering for a purpose later described. Strip 1 l is knotted at l2 and thus forms an endless loop which is divided by a ring member or ferrule 13 into an upper or wrist loop [4 and a lower or article engaging loop [5. Ferrule [3 may be so shaped (as seen in Fig; 3) that it firmly embraces knot 12. about which ferrule I3 is tightly crimped, whereas the leg I6 of loop II] is adapted to slide loosely or with more or less friction through opening I! provided in ferrule l3.

It is preferred to have one side of ferrule I3 flattened as at I8 to form a name plate or the like. The'lcwer'loop [5 as seen in Figs. 1 and zforms in applied position double loop sections I9, 20 which are threaded through handle 2| of abag 22 tobe grasped by the fingers of the hand 23' of a person. As can be further seen from Fig. 2, upper loop l4 isfworn substantially inconspicuously on the arm 24of a person. Loop l4 may be readily adjusted to the circumference of the wrist of the wearer, as can be easily understood from the construction of the device ID by regulating loop l lrelatively wim l5by means of ferrule I3.

It will be easily realized from the aforesaid explanation that a handbag22 or similar article when placed by. a person on a table or other support cannot be misplaced, stolen or lost due tothe fact that safety device [0 is still attached to handleZl. The-elasticity inherent in the safety device 10 permits generally sufficient movability of the arm of a person without interferingwith the article to be protected against loss.

Fig. 4 shows a modified form of a safety device 30 made in accordance with this invention. This safety device 30 consists of a hollow bracelet 3i which may be preferably round in cross section and made from metal, plastic or any other material suitable for wear on the arm of a person. In the embodiment shown bracelet 3| is made from two hollow half portions which are connected to each other at Ma, 3lb.

The hollow interior 32 of bracelet 3| contains a spring 33 which is anchored at one end by means of a pin 34 arranged in the proximity of an opening 35 provided in bracelet 3|. The other end of the aforesaid spring 33 is connected to a clip or ferrule 36 which also forms a stop, as may be later explained. 'I'o ferrule 36 are further fastened in any known manner the ends of legs 31 and 38 of a preferably elastic cord 40 which forms a loop 39.

Loop 39 carries a bead or ball-shaped element 4| through which legs 3'! and 38 are threaded, as indicated at 42.

In normal position the elastic cord id is retracted within the hollow space 32 of bracelet 4!, whereby element 4! abuts against opening 35, whereas spring 33 is in contracted position. As soon as it is desired to employ the safety device 30 in connection with an article or package, bead or element 4| is grasped by the fingers of the hand of a person to pull out cord 40 from the interior of the bracelet. Bracelet 3| is then subsequently looped through loop 39, whereby end loop portions are formed which are similar to those as indicated by numerals l9 and 20 in Fig. 1 to encircle the handle of a handbag, briefcase or similar article, as may be easily understood.

It will be also realized that ferrule 36 upon pulling cord 40 substantially out of the interior 32 of bracelet 3| will come to lie against the wall defining opening 35 and forms a stop thereat. Thus spring 33 assumes its substantially fully extended position.

If device 30 is not in use, then bracelet 3| with cord in retracted therein forms an ornament and may be worn as an ordinary bracelet.

Although cord 40 is shown in this embodiment as made from elastic material, it is easily understood that cord 40 may be replaced by a chain or other suitable tie means to serve the purpose of yieldably attaching the wrist loop or bracelet to an article in the manner hereinabove described with respect to Figs. 1 and 2.

It can thus be seen that there has been provided in accordance with this invention a safety device adapted for connection with an article to be carried by the hand of a person comprising a first loop, a second loop, means operatively connecting said loops with and for adjusting said loops to each other, aid first loop being adapted for engagement with the wrist of said persons hand, said second loop being adapted to threadedly engage said article, whereby the latter is secured to said wrist of said hand when being carried by said persons hand.

"Although the invention has been described with reference to certain specific embodiments thereof, it is to be distinctly understood that various modifications and adaptations of the arrangements herein disclosed may be made as may readily occur to persons skilled in the art without constituting a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the objects and in the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

1. A safety device adapted for connection with an article to be carried by a person, comprising a first loop adapted to engage the wrist of a persons hand, a second loop adapted to engage said article, and means connecting said loops with each other, whereby one of said loops encases the other of said loops, said one loop forming a bracelet having an opening, the other loop being adapted to be pulled through said opening from within said bracelet for engagement with said article.

2. A safety device adapted for connection with an article to be carried by the hand of a person, comprising a first loop, a second loop, means connecting said loops with each other, said first loop being adapted to encircle the wrist of said persons hand, said second loop when in operative position being adapted to engage said article, whereby the latter is secured to said wrist of said persons hand, said first loop constituting a hollow bracelet having an opening therein, said second loop being arranged in inoperative position to extend within the hollow of said first loop. and means connected to said second loop and normally retracting said second loop through said opening into said inoperative position within said first loop.
