0 all whom it mag/,concern Be it known that, I, HENRY BUNCH,`A of Garrettsville, in thec'ounty of Portage and State ot' Ohio, have invented a certain new and use- 5A ful Improvement in Lock-Socket Whip-Holder 1o when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure Vl is a perspective view of my invention as seen attached to a buggy, in connection with a dash, and havinga whip locked inr and Fig. 2 is a detached view of my device.

A is an iron rod, having on the lower end a liange and a screw-thread, with nut for secur- 'ing said rod to the sill ot' a buggy or wagon zo body.

To the upper end of said rod is fixed by a. pivotal joint an arm, B, which, together with that portion of the rod above said joint, -forms the clamp for holding the reins. To the lower end of said arm is attached a spring,

z5 which serves to press the jaws of the clamp together. To the lower part ot" said rod A is attached a socket, C, toy receive the lower end or butt ot' a whip. Midway between the aforesaid'clamp B and socket C on said rod A is made a loek-and-hinge band, l), said band litting closely around the handle ot' the whip. The folding half of said band is attached by means ot' a spring-hinge, and will therefore close itself. a springllock, so that when the hnnd is closed it is seltloeking. The whip, when thus secured, cannot be removed by drawing ont through the banl by reason ofthe taper ot' the handle. The whipcan 4therefore be itlidrawn only by rst unlocking the bund D.

The advantages of this device are apparent. The locked band prevents theliability of a whip being stolen, also supplies a convenient means of holding the reins.

Having described my invention, I claim- The -hereindescri bed lock-socket whip-holder and rein-holder combined,fand consisting ofthe rod A, having the tiange and nut forsecuring same to sill, the hinged arm B, with its spring, forming the rein-holderclamp, the socket C, and the hinged band and lock D, as shown and described H. BUNCH.
