Application August 25, 1949, Serial No. 112,336
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an open out bed jacket.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a simple bed jacket which can be opened outwardly along the sides thereof and which can be separated along the back portion upwardly to the back of the neck thereof thereby to permit the easy removal of the jacket from the wearer.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an open out bed jacket which is simple and dressy, which may be trimmed and decorated with laces or ribbons, is easy to iron, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to apply to the wearer and which can be connected by simple snap fastener elements to the body of the wearer.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the jacket looking upon the front and one side thereof.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the jacket looking upon the back or rear thereof.
Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the jacket with the portions thereof spread out and flattened.
Referring now to the figures, represents a front panel having pockets I l and I2 and decorative pieces l3 and l4. On the front panel element are side snap fasteners l5 and I6. At the top of the front panel is a collar like formation ll surrounding a neck opening I8. The back panel is formed of two parts which are joined together by snap fastener elements 19 and 20 located respectively upon the separable parts of the back portion. The separable parts of the back portion may be identified as indicated at 21 and 22 and these parts have respectively cooperating fastener elements 23 and 24 adapted respectively to be connected to the respective fastener elements l5 and I6 to secure the front and back portions together. A ribbon or tie 25 extends from the collar I! at the front thereof.
As the front and back portions are joined together by the snap fastener elements, arm holes as indicated at 26 are provided. At the same time the neck opening [8 is provided and the back portion is closed by the fastener elements I9 and 20.
It will be seen that when the fastener elements are detached from one another that the entire jacket can be made flat and easily ironed. To connect the jacket with the patient lying in bed, it is a simple matter to place the same about the 2 patient and to fasten the snap fastener elements at the back and at the sides under the arm. The jacket is applied to the patient in a simple manner and similar to that which a bib is applied. Simply raise the front portion about the neck of the wearer and fasten at the back and at the sides. The sides are easily and quickly formed by snapping the fastener elements under the arms. The usual hospital bed jacket is difficult to get into. The present jacket is easily applied and may be made dressy by trimming 2'! about the entire periphery of the piece and similar to the collar ll. The shoulder formation may be stiffened by stitchings as indicated at 28 laterally spaced from one another.
while various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed .the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
An open out bed jacket comprising a front portion having a neck opening, separable back portions, the front and back portions adapted to extend over the shoulder and over the front and back of the wearer, fastening elements connected to the separable back portions and adapted to engage with one another to connect the back portions together and the jacket about the back of the wearer, fastener elements on the front and back portions and cooperable with one another to connect the portions together beneath the arms and to provide the arm openings for the jacket, parallel stiffening stitchings extending between the front and back portions and adapted to lie over the shoulders of the wearer to stiffen the shoulder formations provided thereby and trimming material extending around the entire periphery of the front and back portions except for the overlapping of the back portions and about the neck opening.
