Description

GOLF CLUB CARRIER Filed Sept. l1, '1947 :lv.............nr'.v,
Snvenfor Patented `Fan. 176, 1951 UNITEDy STATES PATENT AFFICE GOLF CLUB CARRIER William J. May, Spokane, Wash.
Application September 11, 1947, Serial No. 773,349 1 Claim. (o1. 28o- 41) My present invention relates to an improved golf club carrier of the type employed by golfers to carry their clubs and including wheels so that the Weight of the clubs is borne by the carrier rather than on the shoulder of the player or his caddie.
Specically the carrier of my invention consists in a preferably metal container having individual compartments for the golf clubs, also exterior flexible pockets for the golfers sweater or other equipment.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical em bodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplied structure within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the carrier of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a View as at line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view, and
Fig. 4 is a View as at line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings, I have illustrated the present preferred embodiment of my invention as including themetal wall of sheet material 2, the ends of which are secured to plates 6. A bottom plate 8 is anged at I8 and secured to the container, and on this plate I provide a ber board base l2 and a sponge rubber sheet I4 to cushion the drop of the clubs placed in the carrier.
Within the container I position the angular sheets l to form the compartments I8 and a cover 28 of leather has apertures 22 aligned with the compartments so that the various clubs may be inserted, shaft end rst into the apertures and into the compartments to keep the clubs separated from each other.
An accordion-plaited leather or cloth pocket 24 is secured to the front wall of the container by rivets 26, and may be provided with a multiple closure fastener 28.
A bracket plate 35 is secured to the rear plate 6 of the container at 32 and has a bearing portion 34 drilled at 36 to receive the shaft 38 to which the yoke arms 48 are secured by nuts 42. Axles 44 for wheels 48 are secured in the ends of the arms.
The shaft 38 has recesses 48 for the pin 50 having a knob 52 and slidable in the collar 54 in the bearing portion and the spring 56 on the pin conned by collar 58 and cotter pin 60 urges the pin 58 into one of the recesses 48 to secure the yoke 55 arms and wheels in extended position as shown or folded for carrying as in an auto.
A handle 62 on shaft 64 is secured on the ear 88 on plate 68 on the plate 6 of the container and is retained on bolt 69 by wing nut '10. Y
The handle may obviously be adjusted to the proper angle for the player and may be folded against the container for transportation.
The entire assembly may be made of light weight material and will eectively decrease the burden of the player in carrying the clubs and equipment on his shoulder and will permit the easy carrying of the equipment from hole to hole by the player merely pushing the carrier over the golf course.
The bracket plates 39 and 68 may be omitted and suitable brackets substituted to secure the bag to any conventional cart for carrying golf bags.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a golf club carrier, the combination with a container having an adjustable handle, a bracket having a horizontal bearing bore, and means for attaching the bracket to the exterior of the container, of a rock shaft journaled in the bearing bore and having peripheral recess-sockets therein, a spring-pressed pin mounted in the bracket for selective engagement withthe recess-sockets, a pair of yoke-arms rigid with the ends of the rock shaft, axles mounted in the free ends of the yoke-arms, and a pair of Wheels journaled on said axles.
WILLIAM J. MAY.
