Description

D. M. WOODS Feb. 13, 1951 ADJUSTABLE FASTENING MEANS FOR SANITARY NAPKINS Filed Sept. 10, 1948 Dorothy M. Woods IN V ENTOR.
Patented Feb. 13, 1951 ADJUSTABLE FASTENING MEANS FOR SANITARY NAPKINS Dorothy M. Woods, Springfield, Mass.
Application September 10, 1948, Serial No. 48,553
1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved vertically adjustable means for securing a sanitary napkin to a belt or support which is designed to obviate the disadvantages of pins, buttons, and the like hitherto employed and which in use will cause no discomfort toor center strain upon the wearer.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide an adjustable fastening means for a sanitary napkin comprising a sanitary napkin-supporting strap, an upper strap, longitudinally spaced, transversely aligned slots in said first strap, a sleeve at one end of said upper strap, and a resilient hook means engaging the sleeve and selectively received in said slots, said hook means including a continuous wire bent to form an upper rod receivable in said sleeve, a bottom rod and a pair of transversely spaced, upwardly and inwardly curved jaw portions receivable in a selected pair of said slots, said jaw portions being adapted to abut the outer surface of said first strap.
These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the supporter of the instant invention attached to a sanitary napkin;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevational view of one of the webs, the hook member and a portion of the strap being attached thereto and shown in dot and dash lines; and
Figure 3 is an elevational view of one of the hook members.
Specific reference is now made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.
Indicated at I 8 is a belt, preferably circular, which is to be worn about the abdomen. It is to be understood that this belt is, of course, flexible and at opposite ends of the belt, a pair of straps l2 are secured. The top edges of the straps l2 are provided with flaps 14 which are fastened, as by sewing, to the belt Ill. The bottom ends of the straps are crimped as at [6 to produce a sleeve [8, the sleeve l8 being formed as a result of the crimped portions It being sewn to the inner face of the straps l2.
Both ends of the napkin 20 are folded back to form cushions 2| and secured as by sewing to the cushions is a pair of webs 22, fabricated of suitable flexible cloth, which as clearly shown in the drawings, include longitudinally spaced pairs of slots 24 adjacent the edges of the webs.
To support the webs 22 upon the straps 12 resilient retaining pins 26 are provided which, as shown clearly in Figure 3, consist of a continuous wire preferably configurated as shown in this figure. It will be seen that this wire is bent in such a form as to provide a top rod 28 which is receivably retained in the sleeve portions l8 of the straps, a bottom rod 30 and a pair of transversely spaced jaw portions 32 which are upwardly and inwardly curved or crimped. Thus, after the top rod 28 is positioned within the sleeve member l8 the jaw portions 32 are slipped into a selected pair of slots 24 on the webs 22 and the jaw portions 32 are hooked on to the web portion so that they abut the outer surfaces of the webs. By positioning the retaining pins 26 in different slots 24 the napkin 20 may be adjusted vertically upon the straps l2. It will further be seen that very little if any metallic parts will touch the wearers body since both the bottom rods 30 and the jaws 32 are positioned upon the outside surface of the webs 22.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
While I have shown only the preferred form of my invention, I wish to have it understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the claim herein stated, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described the claimed as new is:
An adjustable fastening means for a sanitary napkin comprising a sanitar napkin-supporting strap, an upper strap, longitudinally spaced, transversely aligned slots in said first strap, a sleeve at one end of said upper strap, and a resilient hook means engaging the sleeve and selectively received in said slots, said hook means including a continuous wire bent to form an upper rod receivable in said sleeve, a bottom rod and a pair of transversely spaced, upwardly and inwardly curved jaw portions receivable in a selected pair of said slots, said jaw portions being invention, what is adapted to abut the outer surface of said first strap.
