My present invention relates to an improved book marker of the type designed to be detachably secured to the book cover of the book by a clamp member and having connected thereto by a flexible connecter a fiat elongated marker formed with an adjustable line indicator.

The marker of my invention in addition to its obvious utility will have suitable ornamentation and may be made of suitable material such as the various plastic substances now available and may be made in any desirable color.

In the accompanying drawings I have illus trated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawings wherein I have illustrated the present preferred embodiment of my invention I employ a clamp plate 2 folded upon itself at t to form the rear spring clamp 6, offset at 8, and which extends at 10 below the lower extremity of the front plate. Near the upper fold 4, the plate and the spring clamp are apertured to receive a ring 12 to which is secured a chain I4.

This chain [4 is attached as b a ring IE to the upper post [8 of the marker 20 which post is enclosed by the curved arms 22.

The marker 20 consists of an elongated flat bar pointed as at 20 at its lower end for easy insertion into the book, and the marker has a connected edge slot 26 and side slot 28 to receive the enlarged flange bar 30 and the reduced plate 2 32 of the pointer 34. The pointer is snugly fitted into the slots of the marker and the frictional contact between the pointer and the slot walls will retain the pointer in the desired position.

The pointer may well be of blending or contrasting color, and the chain may be of suitable length to fit most books.

By the use of the marker of my invention the device will be securely attached to the book by the spring clamp and may easily be placed between the desired pages with the pointer set at the proper line for later reference.

Having thus fully described my invention a what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A book mark comprising an elongated flat bar having two faces and two side edges, 21. first longitudinal slot in said bar open to both faces thereof, a second longitudinal slot in one side edge of the bar communicating with the first slot, a pointer having a reduced central plate portion and an enlarged end flange portion at each end of said central plate portion, said pointer being slidably mounted in said slots so that one enlarged flange portion is in said first slot the central plate portion is in said second slot and the other enlarged flange portion engages the outer surface of the side edge in which said second slot is provided.

2. A book mark as in claim 1 wherein a book cover engaging clamp is flexibly connected with one end of the bar.
