PICNIC BASKET WITH FOLDING TABLE AND BENCHES Filed Feb, 14, 1947 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR.
EDNA WEAMER ATTEI RN EYB Patented Apr. 10, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT 2,548,639 F F l C E PICNIC BASKET WITH FOLDING TABLE AND BENCHES 2 Claims.
This invention relates to inventions in tables for picnics and the like, and more particularly to the provision of a combined picnic basket, table and chairs.
It is an object of this invention to provide a basket mounted on wheels so that it can be rolled conveniently from place to place, the basket having partitions adapted to receive a folding table and a plurality of folding chairs.
A further object is to provide a basket of such a shape as to conveniently support a folding table and a plurality of folding chairs, and provide spaced supports on the basket for legs of the table so such legs can be detached from the table, mounted on the basket, and then used as a handle to wheel the basket from place to place.
A further object is to provide a simple combination basket and folding table and chairs, which has few parts to get out of order.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a basket and table embodying the invention, certain parts being broken away and shown in section, and certain parts being omitted.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a table and basket.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the table and basket.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a chair.
Referring to the drawings, a table is shown in Fig. 2 in an expanded condition. To remove the table, a hook 4 on section 2 of the table is removed from an eye 5. There are two hooks l and two eyes 5. The table is formed in two sections I and 2, connected by hinges 3.
A table leg 6 is removed by springing its outturned free ends from bushings l. The table is then folded downwardly and slid between partitions 8 and 9 which are spaced from the front part of a basket 10 (see Fig. 1) to form the front of the basket.
A bench l I has two U-shaped metal legs l2 and i3 which may be removed if desired by springing their free ends l4 out of bushings on the bench seat. The several benches are placed between partitions I and [6 in the basket to form the ends of the basket. The free ends [4 of the legs are sprung into bushings I! on the longitudinally fio extending flanges [8 of the bench at the four corners of the bench.
The table leg 6 is inserted through brackets [9 on the baskets and the free ends of the leg are sprung into bushings 20, and the leg extends up above the basket to serve as a handle.
The back wall 23 and the bottom 25 of the hasket can be enclosed permanently with sheet fiber or other suitable materials.
Supported by the basket is an axle 2| upon which are rotatably mounted wheels 22, to enable the basket and contents to be moved conveniently from place to place.
It will be seen that there has been provided a simple and effective combination basket, folding table and folding benches, especially adapted for use at picnics, the device being conveniently carried in the trunk of an automobile, and quickly disassembled and assembled.
The above description is to be considered as illustrative and not limitative of the invention of which modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope as set forth in the appended claims.
The invention having been described, what is claimed is:
1. The combination of a basket, folding table and folding chairs, comprising a detachable U- shaped leg on one end of the table, hook and eye means on the table and basket for supporting the other end of the table in an operative position, a folding chair having detachable U-sha-ped legs, a partition in the basket to set off a space to receive the table when folded, partitions in the basket to receive a plurality of folded chairs, bushings on a lower portion of the basket into which the free ends of the detached leg of the table can be sprung, brackets on an upper portion of the basket to secure the detached table leg at a point spaced from the free end of the leg, the distance between said bushings and the top of said basket being less than the length of said table leg, whereby the U-shaped end of said detached table leg projects above the top of the basket to form a handle, and wheels mounted on the basket.
2. In combination with a basket having a plurality of partitions, a folded table positionable between two of said partitions, a plurality of folded chairs positionable between other partitions in the basket, a detachable U-shaped leg for supporting one end of the table, said U- shaped leg having outturned free ends, bushings on the basket into which the free ends of the leg can be sprung, brackets on an upper portion of the basket to secure the detachable table leg at a point spaced from the free ends of the leg, the distance between said bushings and the top of said basket being less than the length of said leg whereby the U-shaped end of said detachable table leg projects above the top of the basket to serve as a handle, and wheels rotatably mounted on the basket.
