MEDICAL BATH Filed June 19. 1947 INVENTOR 02 1 Ema/k4 ATTORNEYS Patented July 3, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT MEDICAL BATH Jozef Radelicki, Warsaw, Poland Application June 19, 1947, Serial No. 755,611 In Poland December 12, 1945 OFFICE Section 1, Public Law 690, August 8, 1946 Patent expires December 12, 1965 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a method of and device for preparing medical vapour baths more particularly of mud, salt, herb and like vapour baths.
In the majority of cases mineral baths cannot be taken in the local spas'throughout the year but are limited to a few short seasons during the year. The shipment of mineral salts or mineral mud to other places in order that the mineral baths may be prepared there is expensive since this requires large amounts of the salts or mud. The present invention has for its object to provide a method by which this drawback is overcome.
The invention mainly consists in this that the vapour (steam) before it is used in the bathing place is passed through mineral salts, mud, herbs or the like and only after it has been saturated with these ingredients is the steam led to its proper destination. Besides natural mineral salts or their mixtures as they occur in nature, use may be made of any desirable artificially obtained mixtures of salts or the like as may be prescribed by the medical profession so that the invention provides a great variety of possibilities.
The substances (salts, mud, herbs and the like) which are used to saturate the steam are preferably placed in a suitable vessel and together with the latter introduced into a suitable drum through which the steam is caused to pass. Besides the medical baths properly so called and which are taken for the treatment of illnesses, according to the invention the bath may be prepared for recovery purposes in which case various herbs are most suitable.
The method according to the invention is cheap as it has been found in practice that in order to prepare a full bath for the whole body only a few kilograms of steam and a few tablespoonsful of mud, mineral salt, herbs or the like are necessary. Moreover, this method permits of the medical and recovery bath being used at any desired place throughout the year.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of example the construction of a device for the preparation of baths according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows the device in cross section, and
Figure 2 a front view of the opening through which the limbs to be treated are introduced into the device.
The device consists of a tub a in the shape of a closed or open collector or bath which is filled with steam and of a drum b in which there is placed the substance for the saturation of the steam such as mud, salts, herbs and the like. These substances are preferably placed in a vessel which is secured in the drum 1) so that it cannot be moved therein, such as by screwing or in any other suitable way.
The vessel 0 may be in the form of a cylinder the bottom of which may for instance be provided with a net cl, on which the saturating substances are placed. The handle I provided on the vessel 0 serves for the purpose 'of lifting the latter and also to turn it when it is being screwed into the drum b.
The drum b is closed in an airtight manner by means of a lid e and a screw 11. passing through the bracket 1.
The tub a is provided with a thermometer 7' and also with a grid h and a blow-out valve p.
The steam which is admitted through the valve g passes through the pipe r, the drum b and the vessel 0 and through the pipe s finally coming into the tub a, being thus saturated according to the invention whilst passing through the vessel 6.
The edge m of the opening through which the limbs of the user are introduced into the tub a is preferably covered with rubber.
The construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is intended only as a preferred embodiment by which the invention may be carried out. The invention may also take other forms diiiering from that shown in the drawing, for example, the bathing vessel may have the form of an ordinary openv bathing vessel to be covered with a lid or with a flexible cloth. The bathing vessel may even consist in a flexible bag to be used, for example, if weak persons shall be treated. Moreover, the drum and the cartridge may have not only a vertical position as shown in the drawing, but also a horizontal or other position.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Apparatus for treating a human body including a source of steam, a bathing vessel, a body supporting grid in saidvessel, a steam conduit from said source connected into Said vessel below said grid, a container interposed in said conduit, a
said container.
