Description

July 10, 1951 w. v. DAVIS CARTRIDGE HOLDING BOX Filed Oct 29, 1949 JNVENTOR, 1d [icy Mmm Patented July 10, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to cartridge holding box, and more particularly to a special box prepared to receive one or more boxes of cartridges after their covers have been removed, and to hold them in their original box, and as stacked or placed therein, for the convenient use of the person who is to use them.
Among the salient objects of the present invention are to provide a special box structure, with means for attaching it to a belt worn around the person carrying it, with spring cover therefor; to provide in such a box a V-shaped partition in the middle thereof, which will cause a slight cant in the box of cartridges placed in the special box, thus wedging it sufi'iciently to more fixedly hold it in place, said V-shaped partition also forming a clearance space in the front for a latch element for securing the cover in closed position.
The invention is preferably made to hold two boxes of cartridges as they are purchased, after the cover has been removed, the container part of the box, with the cartridges therein, being placed, one at each side of the V-partition, which causes a slight wedging of the box in the special box or holder, and thus more firmly holding them in place and accessible to the user.
In order to more fully explain the invention, I have lilustrated one practical embodiment thereof on the accompanyin sheet of drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan View of my invention, with cover;
Figure 2 is a front elevation thereof;
Fi ure 3 is a plan view thereof, with the cover open; and
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view, taken on the line 4-4 on Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, a special box, designated 5, with Spring-opened cover 6, With means at the rear, designated 1, for connecting said box with a belt, is clearly shown in said drawings. These features are all old and well known in the art.
My special box 5 is preferably made of metal, and of a size to receive two boxes of cartridges, after the covers have been removed. I have shown two boxes in place in the special holder box, said boxes being designated 8 and 9. 8 has the cartridges in place therein, while box 9 Box is shown empty to more clearly indicate its outline.
An important feature of my invention is the use of a V-shaped partition, designated ID in the middle of the box. This V-shaped partition has two functions: it makes it necessary for the boxes to be slightly canted as they are put in place therein, because of the taper of said partition, as clearly indicated in Fig. 3. It also provides clearance space, in the front, for a latch element II, for holding the cover 6 in closed condition. The cover is provided on its under, front edge with a catch element I2, to receive the upper end H of the spring latch element l I, as will be understood from Figs. 3 and 4. A latch release element [3 is shown in Fig. 4, positioned to be pressed inwardly for the purpose of moving the spring latch l l away from the catch element [2 on the cover, as illustrated. The space in the V-shaped partition can also be used for holding any small article, as may be desired.
While I have shown and described one practical embodiment of the invention, I am aware that changes in details can be made within the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, limit the invention to the details used to illustrate the invention, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim.
I claim:
A special box for holding two boxes of cartridges, including a box structure, a V-partition in said box having its open end at the front of said box and its closed end at the rear side thereof, said partition forming two compartments in said box to receive boxes of cartridges, two boxes of cartridges pressed into said compartments, said boxes of cartridges being canted as wedged into place, a cover for said special box, and a latch in the open end of said V-partition for holding said cover closed.
