amended April 30, 1928; :3701"0. G.. 757)= The invention described herein, if patented, mayA bemanufactured and used by or forthe Government` for governmental purposes withoutl thepaiymentfto me of'any rojntltyfthereon.` 3
'Il'i'is invention relates to a novel method `for g blousingzor bulging the bottomsjoftrouser legs; as
practiced, for example,` by'para'chute troops.'
As now practiced the lower edges4 of the trouser legs are stuiTed into the tops of. the wearers boots or. relatively high shoes.. Such procedureu not only tends to impairthe normal circulation of blood in. the wearers legs, but also produces an irregular and unsightly appearance among troops, due to the fact that the trouser bottoms will be stuffed into the shoes varying degrees according tothe -whim of the wearer as Well as according to the amount of space available between the boot top and leg of the wearer.
It is an object of the present invention therefore to provide a method for blousing trouser leg bottoms which avoids the necessity of inserting them in the boot tops, thereby eliminating the defects just mentioned, namely, interference with the circulatory system of the wearer and the unsightly appearance of irregular or non-unifo-rm blousing.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a rather simple and inexpensive tying means comprising a strap for binding the trouser bottoms about the wearers legs at a point just above the boot tops and detachably anchoring the straps to the boot tops.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description When taken in connection With the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view 0f the lower portion of the leg of the wearer showing the novel attachment about to be applied to the boot;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing a further step in the procedure of installing the blousing attachment;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the device, partly broken away;
Figure 4 is a front elevational view showing the appearance of the trousers as bloused with the new attachment;
Figures 5 and 6 are perspective views of modified means for attaching the device to the boot top; and
Figures 7 and 8 are a side elevational view, partly in section, and a vertical sectional view respectively, of still further variations of the means for attaching the device to the boot.
Paratroopers and others for which the present device is intended; wear boots or shoes provided i. with a relatively high *upper andsuch shoes are" indicated in- Figures l and 2lby` thelnumerald In the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, these shoes are provided with backstays 2 and at a point adjacent the upper end of the stays one portion 3 of a conventional'type of snap fastener is riveted or otherwise secured.
The means for attaching the bottom of the trouser tothe legs of the wearer at a point slightly abovethe top ofthe boots comprises an elongatedv strap 4, provided with a conventional buckle 5 at one end and apertures 6 at the other end for cooperation with the buckle. Adjacent the buckle portion of the strap, a depending strap 'I is secured as indicated by the numeral '18. This depending strap l is provided with a complementary snap fastener 9 for cooperation with the fastener 3 mounted adjacent the top of the backstay 2.
In applying this device, as clearly indicated in Figures 1 and 2, the snap fastener 9 is first applied t9 its counterpart 3 on the boot and the leg of the trouser is then positioned so as to slightly overlap the top of the boot, and the material of the trouser leg is then folded or gathered in a manner which will be readily understood, so as to snugly t about the wearers leg. The strap is then drawn tight about the trouser leg just above the boot top, as clearly indicated in Figure 2, and the buckle fastened. Thereafter, the excess portion of the material of the trouser legs is folded downwardly over the str-ap 4 and the boot top .so as to blouse the same in the manner indicated in Figure 4. In the modied construction shown in Figure 5, the depending strap is indicated by the numeral Il! and in lieu of the conventional snap fastener shown in Figures 1 to 3, the strap I0 is provided with an eye or loop II pivotally connected to the lower end of the strap and cooperates with a hook I2 secured adjacent the upper end of the boot top. In Figure 6, an equivalent strap I3 is provided with a necked-in loop portion I4 of the Vgarter type Divoted to the lower end of the strap and adapted to cooperate with a pin or button I5 fixed to the backstay of the shoe adjacent the upper portion thereof.
The modified construction shown in Figure 'I for attaching the depending strap I6 to the shoe is quite similar to that shown in Figure 5, but differs therefrom in that the loop or eye I'I has its lower portion shaped into the form of a wedge I8, so as to facilitate the engagement of the eye or loop over the hook portion I9 fixed to the shoe at a point slightly below its top. The modied construction shown in Figure 8 is very similar to that shown in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, but in this latter instance the snap fastener, which is mounted directly on the backstay of the shoe in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, is mounted on a flexible strip 20, which has its lower end xed .to the back of the shoe at a point spaced below the top thereof and its upper end xed to the top of the shoe so as to provide aloop to which the snap member 2| is attached.
The device of the present invention as outlined above and asillustrated in the drawings is of inexpensive construction and is easily applied to the wearers shoe. and just as easily attached to the trouser leg so as to permit blousing of the lower portion of the trousers. Moreover, the construction and arrangement is such as to rpermit uniformity in the blousing of the trousers and yet eliminates the objectional featureof stuing the trouser legs in the top of the boots, which, as mentioned above, has the disadvantage of impairing, if not entirelycutting oi the circulation of blood in that portion of the wearers leg.
I claim: K y
1. The method of blousing trouser bottoms which comprises coupling a strap means to the wearers shoe at a point slightly below the top thereof, raising the trouser bottom to a point adjacent the top of the shoe with the bottom of the trouser slightly overlapping the top of the shoe and the coupling point, applying the strap means about the trouser bottom to bind it to the `wearers 'leg at apoint just above the shoe top,
thereby causing excess trouser material to fold down over the shoe top.
2. The method of blousing trouser bottoms which comprises coupling a strap means to the wearers shoe at a point slightly below the top thereof, raising the trouser bottom to a point adjacent the top of the shoe with the bottom of the trouser slightly' overlapping the top of the shoe and the coupling point, and applying the strap means about the trouser bottom to bind it to the wearers leg adjacent the shoe top. thereby causing excess trouser material to fold down over the top of the shoe.
