My invention relates to a garment and I declare the following Ito be a full, clear, concise and exact description thereof suicient :to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it 'appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters refer to like vparts throughout.
The object of the invention is to provide a garment formen commonly called shorts which will lend comfort and protection to the wearer thereof, especially when driving an automobile.
Heretofore, in garments of the above description the part of the garment that covers the reproductive organ is necessarily made so narrow that said organ will slip from one side thereof to the other to the discomfort of the wearer.
To overcome this serious objection the present garment provides a pocket at the front part of the garment with an interior opening that allows for the reception of the reproductive organ and thereby tends to hold it in its natural position, whereby to lend comfort and protection to the wearer thereof.
The object will be understood by referring to the drawings in which Fig. 1 shows a front View of the garment.

Fig. 4 is a plan view looking down onto the crotch of the garment, parts broken away.
Fig. 5 is a front view showing a slight modification of the garment.

Figs. 8 and 9 inclusive show respectively the patterns of the front panel employed in making the garment, on a smaller scale.
Figs. 10 and 11 inclusive show respectively the patterns of the crotch pieces employed in the garment, on a smaller scale.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the garment is made of knitted, woven or other material. It comprises an elastic waist band I made of elastic yarn covered with cotton. Band I is seamed at 2 along the upper edge of the back and front parts of the garment. The back part 4 is made of one piece of fabric that extends clear around into the front forming integral front and side parts 6, 6.
The gap between parts 6, 6 is closed by front panel pieces 8 and 9 hereinbelow mentioned. The edges of parts E, 6 areconnected to the contiguous edges of front `panel . pieces 8 and 9 by tapes I 9, I9 that diverge from waist band I to leg openings II, II provided with finishing tapes I2 made of knitted cloth. Tapes I-I), I0 lend support for the front part of the garment.
Panel pieces 8 and V9 comprise three thicknesses of knitted cloth. There is the innermost piece 8 and outer piece 9. Outermost piece 9 comprises two thicknesses of knitted cloth I4 and Ilia. The lower edges of pieces I4 and I4a are cut on a straight line and are seamed at I6 to the crotch piece I'I which is composed of two thicknesses of knitted cloth. The upper edge of crotch piece I'! is out on a circle `at I8, whereby when seamed to the straight lower edges of pieces I4, ld fullness at that location is allowed to aid in forming a pouch lI9 hereinbelow described. Outer panel piece 9 may be of double thickness, whereas inner panel piece 8 may be of single thickness. Moreover, outer panel piece 9 may be made slightly larger than inner panel piece 3 at i its lower end. For this purpose it tapers for about two-thirds of its length, whereby, when seamed at its outer edge to the outer edge of inner panel piece 8 which is rectangular in shape, it will form a pocket or pouch therebetween, particularly at the lower parts thereof.
In order to aid also in forming pouch I9 the vertical sides 2l), 20 of inner panel piece 8 are made parallel to each other, whereas the vertical sides 2I, 2I of pieces I4 and Illa of panel piece 9 diverge from the top part thereof towards the bottom part thereof and then run parallel to each other for forming the crotch. Said panels are seamed together along said edges 20 and 2l.
The lower twin edges 22, 22 of panel piece 8 are cut on a straight line and seamed to the upper straight edge 23 of a rectangular piece 24 made of either one or two thicknesses of knitted cloth that closes the lower inner surface of pouch I9. The seaming at this juncture extends through the thicknesses of all the elements 24, I1, and 25. A tape 25 is used along the edge 23 to aid in preventing stretching in a lateral direction. The means for holding the fullness of pouch I9 comprises the said tape 25 which runs along edge 23, and the horizontally or transversely directed wales of part 24.
Moreover, the lower lateral edges 2G, 26 of panel piece 8 and edges 21, 21 of rectangular piece 24 are seamed to tapes I2 of leg openings II, II. The lower edge of crotch piece I1 is seamed along a straight line at 28 to the narrow extended part 29 of back part 4. Likewise, the lower edge of rectangular piece 24 is seamed along said linel 28 to part 29.
Pouch I9 above mentioned is formed by making pieces I4 and I4a of part 9 a little larger in their overall size than panel piece 8, whereby when seamed along their peripheral edges the pieces I4 and I4a. will effect a bag formation which is aided by seaming the curved upper edge I8 of crotch piece II to the straight edge 30 of pieces I4, I4a.
An elongated longtiudinal opening at 3l is made in innermost panel piece 8 to give admittance for the reproductive organ of the male to pouch I9. The edge of said opening is provided with a tape 32 made of knitted fabric.
A ily opening 33 is made in the front part of the garment by cutting away on an arc pieces I4 and I4a which overlay each other and edging the same with a tape 34 made of knitted or other fabric. The contiguous part of innermost front panel piece 8 will underlay pieces I4 and I4a adjacent fly opening 33, whereby to form a partial closure at this location. However, cornmunicaton can be had between opening SI and y opening 33 for the convenience of the wearer.
The wearer of the garment will lind comfort and protection, especially when seated at the wheel of an automobile, inasmuch as the reproductive organ of the male will find easy access to pouch I9 through opening 3|.
When nature demands, the male organ can be exposed by way of opening 3l and fly opening 33.
Fig. shows a garment having leg portions 35, 35. It is made in all other respects similar to the garment hereinbefore described. In this construction, however, piece 24 of the former structure is of double thickness and slightly altered to suit the contour of the moded garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a garment, a back portion united to a front panel, said front panel comprising an outer panel piece of cloth of double thickness having a lower edge cut on a straight line, a crotch piece having' a circular edge seamed to the said straight edge of the front panel, whereby to aid in forming a pouch, said outer panel piece having side edges cut on a taper, an inner panel piece having side edges in parallel relation to each other, said edges of the outer panel and inner panel pieces seamed together to further aid `in forming a pouch, and said inner panel piece 2. In a garment, a back portion united to a C front panel, said front panelY comprising an outer panel piece of cloth of double thickness having a lower edge cut on a straight line, a crotch piece having a circular edge seamed to the lower straight edge of said front panel, whereby to aid in forming a pouch, an inner panel piece having vertical sides parallel to each other, said outer panel piece having sides diverging from each other and seamed to the vertical sides of said inner panel piece, whereby to further aid in forming a pouch, a rectangular V shaped piece seamed at one edge to said inner panel piece and at its opposite'edge to the back portion of the garment, said inner panel piece having an elongated V-opening whereby to give admittance to said pouch, and said outer panel piece having a fly opening.
3. In a garment, a back portion united to a front panel, said front panel comprising an outer1 panel piece having a cloth of double thickness and a lower edge cut on a straight line, a crotch piece having a circular edge seamed to the straight edges of said front panel piece, whereby to aid in forming a pouch, an inner panel piece having vertical sides parallel to each other, said outer piece having sides that diverge and then run parallel to each other, said vertical edges of the inner panel piece being seamed to the edges of the outer panel piece, whereby to further aid in forming a pouch, said inner panel piece having a V-shaped opening to give admittance to said pouch and said outer panel piece having a fly opening.
4. An undergarment of thev support type for male wear comprising a body formed of a unitary piece of material constituting the back, sides and portions of the front of the garment between the waist and the crotch, superimposed central front panels attached between the `free side edges of said rst piece of material, the under panel member having a vertical slit in the lower half of the panel centrally located widthwse, the top or upper panel piece tapering for about two-thirds of its length, the lower third of the top4 panel having a greater lateral extent than the under panel and the space between the free side edges of said rst named piece of material, so that a pouch is formed between the fro-nt panel members, there being a vertical opening formed between the topfront panel piece and the first named piece of material.
